Re: End Of The World Wednesday?
Why should we care about how the universe started? Live in the now, we don't need to risk everyone's and the planet's lives.

Re: End Of The World Wednesday?
I've been researching and paying attention to the LHC for about 3/4 of a year now. Really, there is a chance that it could end the world but it's one of those one in a billion chances. The knowledge that can be obtained from this experiment is well worth the risk as the risk is really small. Again this is just the work of a bunch of doom mongerers who are always in their basements with tin-foil hats scared of the next end of the world like the Myan Calendar one. Pretty much the way this thing COULD end the world is it could make a micro-black hole which would grow in size and eventually engulf the earth. Theoretical Hawking Radiation is suppose to decay it.

Re: End Of The World Wednesday?
This is **** I have no understanding of, so I can't really say what I expect to happen. But I think that scientists who've been working on something like this for so many years must have some kind of an idea as to what they're talking about. With that, I add that I support this to go through. It'd be pretty cool if this leads us to some new discoveries.

Re: End Of The World Wednesday?
I did at first, but now I think that if the risk was high enough, they wouldn't let him do this.
Also at the ads on the page, WTF, I'm a parent! O_O |

Re: End Of The World Wednesday?
In my opinion, there's only so much in this universe that humans are allowed to know, and this right here is one step over the line.

06/06/06, anyone?
I don't recall the universe ending nor the devil coming to power on that day. |

Re: End Of The World Wednesday?
tl;dr
When the United States dropped the first atomic bomb on Japan, many scientists believed the resulting explosion would continue and not subside, extinguishing all life on Earth. I think Fido touched on what it's actually called. The point is it didn't happen. Toward the end of the article, the author hinted on how the people who were saying the particle accelerator could cause a catostrophic even wern't even scientists. Re: End Of The World Wednesday?
Am I the only one who is excited to see what actual data they get out of this? My stepfathers uncle had worked on a supercollider I think it was in Texas, it was a project that never got through completion but was gonna be the worlds largest supercollider so having been told that story by him of his work on it, I'm EXTREMELY curious to see what vast knowledge will be discovered by this experiment. As for the world ending... *snickers* If it DID end however, least I leave the world on a happy note. :P
