New Monitor = Skill?
Today my monitor fried. I was thinking, "Crap..I can't live without computer". Anyways, my dad gave me 700 dollars to buy whatever monitor I would like for 700 dollars or less, obviously. If I wanted a more expensive one, I would have to pay for the rest of it out of my allowance. So, I went to Future Shop (Bad choice FYI, everything costs a fortune), and I bought a 24 inch Dell UltraSharp monitor. It cost $669.99 Plus tax, which equaled 763 dollars..I had to use some money of my own.
My PA/MA has just increased unbelievably. I have only played SM since I got home, but I went from like 29 perfects on Uber Rave J4 (Rofl, I don't know why I did so horrible before) to 8 perfects in 1 try. O.o I wasn't as good as I was before, definitely not as good as most SM players, but for some reason this monitor gave me a skill boost beyond belief. If you have money to spare, definitely buy this. I am going to try FFR a little later, I want to see if I can get any more good scores in SM. Peace, ~Soul

Re: New Monitor = Skill?
A better refresh rate can lead to a smoother frame rate, which can increase your MA (to a point, eventually your eye can't differentiate between one framerate and another), but did this only happen on one or two songs? Like all people, occasionally I will wake up and notice I suddenly get much better overnight on SM, FFR, or both. If it's consistent, then....well I'm not sure. A bigger monitor means bigger arrows, which means you can see them better, and that often makes it easier to do well on a song. But other than that, I'm not sure how this is possible.

Re: New Monitor = Skill?
Nah, a bunch of songs I got better MA/PA on. I increased my perf count on Emerald Sword by like 60 perfects in 3 tries (WOW), Although not an FC, I increased my PA on 37Dicks from 13 greats to 4 greats (I know I suck, but DOESN'T CHANGE THE FACT I IMPROVED CAUSE OF THIS MONITOR!)
Also, I'm getting a bunch of SDP's (or close-to SDP's) on songs I can't even FC yet lol. EDIT: EnR, he wanted me to buy a good one so it doesn't burn out as fast hahah).

You're an idiot, Dell monitors are very good.
Also, there really is no "refresh" rate on lcd's. It obviously matters on a CRT though. Edit: Also, your dad must not know a lot about computer's, I had a old school compaq monitor for 8 year's that worked fine. (Price obviously doesn't mean It's going to last). :P

Re: New Monitor = Skill?
Your old may have had a slight "ghost" before, but you were so used to it you din't realized it. I personally don't think I will ever buy any type of HiDef stuff, mainly because I don't ever want to risk having that slight delay in sound/video and have to calibrate it, which usually screws over my gaming, which is all I use PC's/TV's for. New things have so many problems most the time you can't really be for sure if it'll be worth it, such as vista, although I personally like it, it still has its flaws.
Also yeah, I've had this dell monitor forever, best monitor I've ever had, I threw it at my brother (...don't ask, he's a dick) it hit the floor, and the things in perfect condition still pretty much, the screen is solid hard, and I punch my monitor a lot from SM/FFR, yet it still works fine. If I had a flat screen, my monitor would be done first hit. |

I have a little bro, so it's better I don't have a plasma screen. XP

Re: New Monitor = Skill?
Well someone else mentioned other stuff. The monitor shouldn't be all that important. New graphics card and ram upgrade or new cpu. All more important then the monitor.

True, I suppose, haha. I can replace that stuff when I get my allowance on Friday. ^^
The monitor did make a difference, though. x.x
