THAT song....
Does anyone have a song that is their enemy?
Mine is {Rose}. I can't even FC it most of the time, and so I can't improve my score at all. I've spent probably 5 or 6 years trying to get over the frustration (obviously with serious time breaks in between), but now there's such a huge mindblock there. I've tried no sound, and different speeds. Anyone have a way to get over a mindblock on a song?!?! It's one of my worst ranked songs and I just plain hate it now! haha |

THAT song..... ugh. 3020, may the blackflag stay forever. (hopefully not)
I would say that , if you can, play it over and over again until the patterns become easier by muscle memory. Or, find songs with similar speed streams, or similar patterns, and use those to get used to the patterns in {Rose} .

Re: THAT song....
The problem is, there is one pattern that shows up often that is the death of me. I know when it comes up, and I know I've gotten it like only one time haha

Ah, Rose, with its anchored streams.
You think that's hard, try playing M.A.M.A. a few times then come back to Rose. Also, believe it or not, despite the use of copymirror in the file, using mirror CAN help break those mindblocks. |

Re: THAT song....
Yeah that's the part, the thing is, the exact same thing shows up for the right side later in the level XD so a mirror wouldn't really help I'd think. I saved a replay just now and it's obvious (near the beginning) when I just lose it, I HATE that little bit. HATE. loathe.

Re: THAT song....
Oh... oh gawd, the three-note patterns.
Have you tried putting different amounts of emphasis on different parts of the pattern? Like, splitting it into [12321] [323] [12321] [323] . sometimes breaking a stream up into smaller patterns and putting emphasis on certain notes helps keep a more consistent tapping rhythm.

Re: THAT song....
Excluding RATO and DP, the song that bothered me most was Eclipse (Solar). The frame gaps are atrocious. Almost every pattern feels awkward to me even when I play it now. Getting rid of bad habits was hell and I've had several blackflag and booflag runs before I finally AAA'd. Then when I finally AAA'd it, I didn't even feel accomplished. Just really pissed off.

I would definitely say RATO... so many 20s runs, then 21-0-1-0 |

The Adventures of Lolo
I blackflagged it twice. I booflagged it four times, no joke (once in the last 20 note easy 8th crap from keyboard) |

What's your playstyle and setup? I've always been spread, but I found that when I finally got my right hand off of the arrow keys my speed increased dramatically. Even moving my right hand to the numpad 8 and 6 let me go from struggling with files like Rose to getting SDGs on low to mid 60s, even AAAing Slaytronic!

Re: THAT song....
for rose try playing every single other file in the game then come back to it
to me lethal injection is impossible to AAA, it's the lowest level song I haven't AAA'ed when I was going through ffr, and it sucks D:<

Re: THAT song....
Repeated mindblocks on patterns mean that the only way you'll nail them is if you either:
1) Get extremely lucky by grinding many attempts (not a good strategy especially when the patterns repeat) 2) Develop a different way to attack the patterns The second option is your best bet; Cammy's suggestion that you should emphasize certain notes that you otherwise wouldn't have is a good way to develop a different approach. Another common strategy is to play the song on a lower rate and gradually increase the speed until you have a better tolerance for those tough parts at a higher speed. One thing I find works for myself is to focus attention to the side with the least demanding patterns. For instance, I do this in the beginning of One Minute Waltz with some of the awkward transitions; I focus on the side that only has to hit one or two notes as opposed to the other side doing more work. By doing this, you force your brain to subconsciously hit the trouble patterns on the other side without doing that mental step that makes you overcompensate and make a mistake. If the patterns were frame-dependent (very dense) I would suggest studying the frame intervals to see what kind of manipulation you can get away with to make them easier but it seems these are stream patterns you need to hit as is. This is a much more advanced strategy though, I haven't done it too much. If the patterns are 123 or 432 roll-type stream, you should practice your one-handed gallops. I think there are a few practice files in custom engines you could try out if you're really stuck |

Re: THAT song....
I think it would really help if you save a replay where you try to obtain a good run and fail afterwards so that you can isolate the pattern that's giving you trouble. Once you save the replay, you can view the replay and memorize the exact patterns you have trouble on and try to hit the patterns correctly without using the keyboard first (you could use a table or your lap instead). This helped me overcome my mindblock from Classical Insanity. ^.^

Frictional Nevada.
This song cost me a computer screen. I can't play it without overwhelming rage when I mess up. |
