Teach Me How to SM!(Learning Not to Suck!) by Dizzy
I've been meaning to do this for a while now. I saw that Wafles has been keeping up with consistently posting and, to be honest, kinda given me some motivation to push myself some. Just like with him, I wanna see just how good I can get and see how I'm improving over time. The sad thing is, I'm probably in the best condition I've ever been. xD
A lot of my scores will show that I'm very weak in fast jumpstreams, major dumps, and streams above 270~ bpm 16th notes, as well as long hammers (go figure). My left hand is also very weak. Most of my inconsistency is mostly because of my left hand. If anyone would like to chime in some opinions, I'm always open to constructive criticism, as my posts generally get overlooked in the SM thread due to lack of 'awesomeness' rofl! Been playing a lot of GLoVE's Stepmania Gym, hoping that that will help some in figuring out a basis on just how much I suck and where I can improve myself. Jacks. Jacks everywhere! idonteven I hate the ending. This will also give me a chance to get back into the community some. With a stable job, I'm actually able to do shit now! I know they are terabad scores but I wanna see how much I can improve. :3 Also, I'll be doing the same thing for solo in this same thread, as I suck at solol, too. I just need to move my solo folders back onto my laptop. /lazy |

Re: Teach Me How to SM!(Learning Not to Suck!) by Dizzy
Kinda as a basis, sort of thing. I have a habit of aiming a bit high for a baseline.
Plus scores like this: Even though it's not exactly a hard song. And I've kinda given up on obtaining MA. rofl So I'm kinda aiming towards speed a bit more. Usually songs less than 12nps I tend to get similar scores, which probably isn't all that great lol! But thanks! I'll keep trying. |

Cool! Keep at it. I know that I really enjoy going back and looking at the older pages in my thread to see just how far I've come, its really a cool way of keeping things in perspective.
I'd comment on scores but I dont recognize the files :\ |

Re: Teach Me How to SM!(Learning Not to Suck!) by Dizzy
rofl You really should download Glove's Stepmania Gym on the Stepmania Online website (or Icy's thread or w/e lol). That's where most of them files come from. The Touhou one is a Flandre Scarlet pack found here He has a BAAAAD habit of throwing in lots of jacks to make the files quite hard, like Tenshi's theme song. <.< lol Tis a good pack with lots of simple MA'able files, since I'm terrible with accuracy.
Thanks tho! Slowing working into the Light Chancellor's Pack 3 now. The difficulty range is very....weird. Would post my Mathasma Attack ss but at a little over 91%, I think that's garbage. >< Plus /lazy lol Gonna try and get over 93% sometime in the next day or so. 8) Last edited by Dizzy_Gear; 03-1-2014 at 10:15 PM.. |

Re: Teach Me How to SM!(Learning Not to Suck!) by Dizzy
Figured I'd play a bit of SM before going to the gym, as a general warmup lol! Seems like a rather derpy day, dropping lots of weird stuff.
Like this. Kinda the reason why I wanna improve. Best MA I've ever had, but that's not saying much (improvement by 200 or so). Totally choked towards the end. >< Seems this is about as much as I can do so far. MA is terrible for this song. Consistency is a major issue, not even the fact I couldn't combo today. xD I've noticed wrist jacking takes a lot of persistence and control. Wish I had control. XD edit: For shits and giggles. Scroll speed was kinda fast for me. lol Last edited by Dizzy_Gear; 03-2-2014 at 05:56 PM.. |

Re: Teach Me How to SM!(Learning Not to Suck!) by Dizzy
Figured I'd just as well post again. After getting home, I decided to figure out a good setup. For the longest time, the height of the table was an issue but it seems that may not be so, though the stress of faster songs on my biceps are a bit more straining than usual. I also played songs that I think a lot more people are more familiar with on here.
<3 you Allykins. :3 I have a feeling I can do a lot better than this. Honestly, I think this is one of my best scores. MA and combo is shot to shit tho. xD I seriously SERIOUSLY don't know how the fuck I did this. I derped up but I was expecting a terrible score. This seems decent tbh. Questions? Comments? Suggestions? ^_^v |

Lol, why are you playing Rebound Dump II pack files? They're are so shitty.
And I don't see why you even made this thread. You're not even THAT bad.

Re: Teach Me How to SM!(Learning Not to Suck!) by Dizzy
Rebound Dump files may be shitty, but I think some of them are fun to play. Is that wrong?
You may think so, but I don't. For someone who has been playing on and off for over 8 years, I do think that I should be a lot better than the skill I currently show. What is wrong with wanting to make a threat to slowly see my progression over time and share it with others? Not to mention that none of these scores will usually garner a second look in the SM thread. I'm basically transparent as a player and have never really tried to get into the community without feeling like I'm some inferior player who shouldn't even be here. I'm not saying you're not wrong to think that, but I see it from a very different point of view: as someone who wants to better myself. |

Re: Teach Me How to SM!(Learning Not to Suck!) by Dizzy
There is nothing wrong with wanting to try to get better. And I wouldn't put time in as a factor on how good you think you should be. There are plenty of elites here that haven't put that many years in and they're top players.
Every score gets looked at in the sm scores thread too but may not receive the same sort of recognition as others. If you keep posting consistently, someone will notice.

I think the first dump pack was good, but the second was just lacking. I wouldn't be disgruntled just because one pack was bad.

Re: Teach Me How to SM!(Learning Not to Suck!) by Dizzy
To be honest, I actually thought the song selection for Rebound Dump II were better, or at least, suited my tastes a lot better than the first pack. I have a pretty bad habit of not playing songs that I juts can't get into. lol Thanks, though, i love you! That's very encouraging words.
Actually had a bit of time to play, as it's the weekend and I don't have to focus on work and work-related issues studying all about electronics and the tools involved in building them. -_- Don't even know how this is a AA. o.O Sightread. p kewl song. mines everywhere! Totally derped that one part. <.< This song really kills me at some parts. I really want to try and get over 90% on A Bird's Snapshot Lifespan. Kind of a short term goal of mine. |

Nice Bridgeport Run! That AA is tricky business, took me so long to get (and I still cant do it consistently I dont think).
We're pretty damn close in skill level. Cool to have a new "rival" to compare scores to Would love to play with you on SMO some time if you're game |

Re: Teach Me How to SM!(Learning Not to Suck!) by Dizzy
Hahaha! I do think you have the better MA ability. But I love playing rather fast stuff, so who knows~ Your Tower score stomps mine, as I've never had good MA. xD When I get the time and I have the itching for some stuff, we should totally play. :3 Thank! Bridgeport Run just slaughters me at some of the jack parts. And it's usually them parts that kill me most. That and the slightly clustered jumpstream there towards the later end of the song, where a lot of my fuckups were. lol

Re: Teach Me How to SM!(Learning Not to Suck!) by Dizzy
Have you ever had one of them days where you just wished you could just disappear? Yeah...
Figured I'd play some SM to help get my mind off things. Fingers felt...weirdly light for some reason. I guess some of these scores aren't bad for my skill bracket (whatever/wherever that is) Boss song (awesome song). them goddamn 16th jumpjacks. Prob one of my better scores. Can't remember Still don't know how this is a fucking AA. I'm never gonna get this song. *sigh* lolRoar Would be nice to AA near 90% sometime. shits and giggles. did better than i thought. tired at the end. final run of the night. longer streams than i expected. |
