Ugliest bug/pest/insect you've seen in person?
well I for one hate bugs in general, but I'm kinda used to them (I think)
I live in the basement so I'm practically in their territory haha I took this with my phone (Galaxy S3) so it's quite detailed best part, i let it escape just now |

It's a house centipede. You're lucky, I've seen them about twice the size that appears to be. |

Yeah, I think centipedes are the ugliest too. I had a few scorpions in my house when I lived in Arizona but they didn't bother me. I especially hate centipedes when I wake up and there is one on the ceiling right above me. I always think it's going to fall...

Front porch is full of centipedes, grasshoppers, moths and such at night cause of the lights. Go Arizona.

House centipedes are mostly harmless. Start talking once you get some actual centipedes.
And yeah I've gotten both. I usually leave the house centipedes alone unless they're in the tub or my bed or something. I kill the real deal whenever they come around though. Millipedes -- mostly harmless House centipedes -- mostly harmless Actual bigass centipedes (you'll know) -- exterminate with extreme prejudice. Scariest insect I've seen was this giant stinging insect thing that I've still never found any pictures of exactly. I do know wasp spray didn't do jack to it except piss it off though. Ugliest, I don't know. Depends what you consider ugly I guess. |

Re: Ugliest bug/pest/insect you've seen in person?
My house is surrounded by holes made by Cicada Killers. They really don't attack humans (or anything other than Cicada's, for that matter) without being realllly pissed off, but I'd prefer not to find out how painful that'd be, since I've already seen one drag a lifeless Cicada into one of it's holes. These fuckers look like prehistoric wasps that live underground. And they've SURROUNDED MY HOME.
none of these were taken by me, obviously. I would NEVER go near one of these things.

According to wikipedia, a sting from a cicada killer doesn't hurt too bad
but yeah they scare the living shit out of me as well

Re: Ugliest bug/pest/insect you've seen in person?
I wouldn't say ugliest but one that freaked me out (even more than cockroaches and wasps) were Carpenter Bees. I first saw them in Orlando and I freaked the fuck out because I've never seen an insect that big before in my life. Males don't have stingers but females do and I didn't want to get close enough to check.
I've never been stung by a bee or wasp before although I had a bad experience with a wasp once when it nearly went through my ear canal but luckily I took it out before anything serious happened.

I'm not an arachnophobic by any stretch of the imagination, but there are a few types of spiders that creep me out. Wolf spiders are one of them, since they are hairy and sometimes carry their young on their back. I remember stomping one as a kid and having a bunch of little spiders pretty much shooting off of it. It was pretty gross. |
