Puzzles
So I was feeling a little nostalgic today, because I hadn't built a jigsaw puzzle in forever. So I stopped by the store and bought a 2000-piece beast, just because it was the biggest they had, and got to work on it tonight. After a few hours, I realized that 2000 is a really big number:
Here, the pieces are all laid out by color, and for a while I was afraid they wouldn't even all fit on the table *_* Anyway, chances are it'll take me a while to finish this thing. So do any of you ever build puzzles? Still have old ones that you've never taken apart? Small ones? Big ones? 3D ones? Show me all of them! |

Re: Puzzles
Hmmm. I haven't done jigsaw puzzles in a while. The most recent one I remember would be those 3d lego/megablocks sets that come with a step-by-step instruction booklet on how to build it. If that doesn't count, I remember a 3-d Big Ben jigsaw puzzle that was about 3 feet that my dad and I finished. I think we threw that out a couple years ago. I wouldn't mind doing another jigsaw puzzle if I had the time, space, frame, and wall space. XD

Re: Puzzles
I do them, but I have a different strategy. I start from the edges, then do similar sections one at a time instead of laying every piece out at once. Dat be a massive table. Post a pic of the finished product.
Oh also I have a Puzz3D of the Big Ben clock tower. Can't post atm. Oh wow, didn't even read pmoni's post either. Mine's definitely not 3 feet though. More like a foot. Last edited by Mike Weedmark; 07-6-2012 at 01:16 AM.. |

Re: Puzzles
I love puzzles. I have so many boxes of like 5000+ pieces my mom said I would put together as a kid in the basement. I don't have a strategy though, I kind of just go in blind and have at it. x]
Might just pull out a puzzle now......

Re: Puzzles
i don't mind them. if im extremely bored and don't feel like reading a book or going out i'll work on a puzzle. first i flip over all the pieces/flatten them out. next i try to find end pieces and categorize those. then find pieces that look similar after studying the box picture and put those near each other. other than that i don't know any advanced strategy. i go at a relaxing pace so it doesn't feel like a grind. also the bigger the better

Anyway, finished my borders 'cause I'm a noob like that Also while doing this I realized all of the pieces have exactly the same lock/tab/whatever shape - 2 in, 2 out, opposite to each other. Not sure if this makes things easier or harder yet :S |

Re: Puzzles
Props on borders + 1 non-border piece! \o/ Progress has been made!
I used to love jigsaws but I haven't done one in a while. :c I prefer logic puzzles or number puzzles like Sudoku nowadays. I should really get back into these things. :3 Make a montage of your progress! ;D

Re: Puzzles
The most challenging one I did was the 1000 piece one of a Star Wars movie poster years ago (I forgot which one out of the 6), and it took me like 2-3 hours to solve it on my own.

I remember doing a 2000 piece puzzle with my mom when I was a kid, and when we were almost done when I tipped the coffee table and it fell on the floor.... :P

Re: Puzzles
Puzzles are fun in the right setting... we had a 5000-piecer that my dorm section put together over the course of a month or so over in a nearby common lounge. Fun to do when you're just sitting around with not much else to do.

Re: Puzzles
My sister sent me a 250 piece puzzle for christmas in 2011, along with a note that said "you're too good at puzzles so finish this upside down!"
Pretty fun lol.

Re: Puzzles
I remember my mom doing one that had a bunch of cats on it at different angles, with the image rotates 90 degrees CCW on the back with no edge pieces. She finished it once and glued it together still so she'd never do it again.
But aside from some of the trippy beautiful ones my little sis & I made to put up on the walls, I haven't done any in a while. |
