Solo gamplay is extremely fun!
I'm very interested. I've been playing solo for a couple of days, but I'm having two major issues. I cannot move my fingers accordingly when hitting those two extra keys. When a note rises where it is to be hit with a ring-finger key, I tend to lose my concentration.
I visualize the middle four receptors shifted to the left or right, depending on which ring-finger I utilize because I have the habit of looking at four receptors only. Using the visual example above, the middle four receptors are mentally shifted to the left because of the left-handed ring-finger note. When this occurs, all the keys and receptors are twisted in my mind. I think that if I could achieve using my ring-fingers like my regular fingers (index and middle fingers), I'd be decent at solo gameplay and it'd be really fun. Therefore, I turn to the solo experienced members. What suggestions do you have regarding eliminating these mental habits? Practice is not a valid suggestions. Obviously I'll be playing solo more often, and I'm starting my piano lessons at school tomorrow so I'll receive a bit of practice with my ring-fingers. I wrote something similar to this only to refresh. I liked how I worded, and formatted everything the first time. Oh well...

Re: Solo gamplay is extremely fun!
Oh cool EAG is playing solo now ;D
Well, every 4-key player would definitely have problems when starting off with solo as you've never played with your ring fingers before in your entire FFR/SM career. Even though you stated that practicing alone is not a valid suggestion, it is obviously the best way to get better at solo. You should start off with easy songs and expose yourself to different patterns, it should help you a ton. Also, you can still practice your ring fingers even when you're not playing SM, like piano which you stated, or on a table. There's 2 solo song packs to get you rollin', you can download them here: http://www.omgdidinsane.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7578 There's plenty of easy songs you can try out, I don't know which one though =x you'll have to find that out yourself haha You can also download the solo files which aren't in packs, they're pretty good simfiles, great for practice. Good luck in your solo adventures pal

I have the same problem EA. D: But it's cool that you're doing solo! (Just don't rape SM like the Thaors).

SOLO RULZ
pretty much a good way to promote solo would be having a ffr solo engine, which i believe is not even going to be considered but i think would be awesome.

Re: Solo gamplay is extremely fun!
@ Nekogon: Logically practice IS the best suggestion there is, but seeing as how you're a seven key player (how do you do that? lol), do you have any tips that would promote growth? Maybe a key setup that helped you a lot, or a certain spot on the screen to concentrate on? Any little hint or comment is greatly appreciated.
I will devote most of my SM time to solo. I plan on getting very good at it. @ alexdestructions: but.. but.. I WANT to wreck SM like Thaor. I don't have good MA, though. @ Necros 140606: Actually it was considered by Tass, but I doubt it'll happen soon. @ robertsona: I'll try it out again, but if I recall correctly, I liked Orbular more than Notebar. Thanks again for the suggestions. Keep them comming please. Solo Rulez?

Re: Solo gamplay is extremely fun!
if you wanna get good at solo you need to start over from easy files and train your ring fingers, otherwise you'll probably get bad habits as mashing or pressing hands when there only are jumps, especially with _ _ _ X _ X or X _ X _ _ _ patterns. this is pretty much what happened to me and it's really hard to correct once you get this habit.

Re: Solo gamplay is extremely fun!
@ Necros 140606: I could feel those bad habits starting and I see why, too. I'll try to correct them before those habits develop.
Thanks for pointing that out.

Re: Solo gamplay is extremely fun!
I have to ask. Is it even possible for an indexer to play solo files?

Look at the middle or something idk do like what you did when you play 4 arrows lol also indexing is impossible if the song is stuffed with chords or brackets (4-6 arrows) ps SOLO RULZ edit: final bosses are linus and kenji beat them and you beat solo edit2: wat, i play reverse and i screw up my ma when i use notebar lmao i haven't tried orbular yet though :/ edit3: also you can try using shuffle for every song so that you get exposed to more patterns, helped me a **** ton in o2jam
