IDEA: Combined Top Scores

Not sure if this has been suggested or not, but it sounded like a good idea to me: a score that combines all your top scores from all the songs and compiles it into one score.

Then there would be a ranking board that shows the highest combined scores, to see who has the most overall points. There should be a % rating, where it would give you a percentage of how many points you have in comparison to how many possible points there are.

So let's say there were 1,000,000 total points you could get, and you had 740,000 points. Your combined score percentage would be 74%.

I thought of this idea because I realized that a AAA of Death Piano would do the same thing for your average rank as a AAA of Power would.

Do you think this is a good idea or not?

EDIT: This would also be a good idea for achievement tokens, to get a certain % of total points.

I know it's just kind of another way to cast your average rank but who doesn't like numbers?

I have definitely heard this idea before, and I like it, and in my opinion it's probably a better way to determine Overall Rank.

There's at least some merit involved in this. The Overall Rank we have right now is based on your whoring ability, not any particular skill.

I like this idea. It works in GH3, and it would (like foil said) make the overall rank be less of how much you can whore for points, and more of how well you can get the highest score.

I've suggested this before, except I said it should replace the current "Overall ranking" system. it's an excellent idea, although it does copy Harmonix in a way.

Not exactly. As you stated, it adds all the total scores together. An AAA of Death Piano would give you more score as there is more arrows in the song. I am kind of confused what you mean by "There should be a % rating, where it would give you a percentage of how many points you have in comparison to how many possible points there are" though.

It's pretty easy to understand...

If all the songs on FFR combined totaled up to 150,000,000, and you had 113,000,000, you would have obtained roughly 75% of all the possible points on FFR.

The percentage is just an easy way to rank you against other people. Or, you could simply be ranked based on the point total you've achieved, which I think is better, because it still follows the theory behind the current Overall Rank, that is, you are ranked on how many points you've obtained.

Also, while I really like this idea, there would be some work involved as it would have to be updated every time a new song is added to the game, and the calculations would have to be redone for every single player on the website. This is where I see the fatal flaw: server load.

As much as I want the idea to happen, more than likely it won't due to the exorbitant amount of recalculations and tallies that will have to go on every time a song is added for every single person who has ever recorded a game. Plus, how often do you update this? Once every hour? There's even more load right there because it not only has to keep up with new songs added to the game, but people also playing the game at all times of the day.

I like the idea, but instead of replacing overall rank with it, make it an additional rank.

I think that this isn't as hard as you state. I'm no expert programmer, but all that needs to be done is add the AAA score for one song (which I don't think is all that difficult) that is already there. You high score is also already saved for each song (see: level ranks). This particular number (the combined best score) could just be updated for the individual when they update their level ranks.

And actually, as it stands, a AAA of Death Piano would do less for your score than a AAA of power would, because consider the alternative: What a BF on Death Piano would do for your avrank compared to a BF on Power.

This idea would simply involve storing on the server a number equal to the total score of a AAA on all songs would be, that could easily be manually modified any time a new song was uploaded if that's what it took.

Then, when loading levelranks in general, it could simply sum your "score" column and divide by the stored number serverside, to generate your percentage each time.

People have said it before but restating: I don't see at all how this is a server load. We already are calculating the % of how many FCs and AAAs you have, I don't see how this is much different.

It shouldn't REPLACE overall rank, it should just be an added statistic. Overall rank is good to see how much of a whore you are.

Also, I thought of an idea: perhaps for subby-only, there could be a public statistic as well as a statistic that adds all the token songs. Adding vROFL into the stat would get interesting.

I wasn't even thinking of Guitar Hero when I thought of this idea.

I was talking about AVERAGE rank when I said the AAA of Power/Death Piano comment. AAAing Power has the same effect on your average rank as AAAing Death Piano would because they are both rank 1.
