Particular songs that helped a skillboost?
I already gave some praise to hi19hi19 for his Cheat Codes stepfile (dance2, d 55), but that stepfile alone helped me skillboost like hell. It could be an outlier, or an easy song amongst the 55's for its shorter length, but I feel as though I'm suddenly reading notes a great little bit faster as I follow this song with more plays across dance/classical genres.
I've been working my way up the difficulties in dance/dance2 to see what I can FC without mashing. I was at around 50/51, then I played Cheat Codes, FC'd with good accuracy on the third play. And I just played it again, 24 hours later, and I'm 10 arrows away from a SDG. Without trying too hard at all! I'm curious who has experienced that feeling. What songs brought you an unexpected skillboost? tldr; I am a paid advertiser of hi19hi19, with what songs did you realize you had broken a plateau? Re: Particular songs that helped a skillboost?
When 44 Edit was released that really helped me read awkward patterns at a relatively decent speed, it wasn't dense enough to be physically demanding but it was awkward enough to teach me how to read less orthodox patterns. Thinking of You helped with my jumpstream, and Serious Shit helped me stay calm under pressure. I suck too much to play any of those songs proficiently nowadays, so none of that matters.
just something to keep in mind; every file you play, as long as it's a step ahead of your current comfort zone will push your boundaries and help you to improve, regardless of whether or not you notice. Basically every song you think is difficult yet you can still enjoy playing is helping your skill boost in one way or another. Fill Me Up With Snacky Happiness was that song for me. It's a 56 and I managed to SDG it then Flag it. I don't have the AAA as of this post, but after that score, I noticed that other files became slightly easier for me. I pin that song for being the catalyst that helped me to transition from D2 to D3.

Oh wait... you probably had that jpg ready in advance. I think I fell into your trap. ;^;
I'm playing more and more songs now, and it's further confirming the skillboost. Thanks for the tips! I just read Arch's post about volume from a few days ago, and I realized that there was one night where I played until my arms were just sore. Recovered before doing that a second time, and experienced improvement both times. Feels satisfying. edit: NOICE REPLAY Last edited by Shadowcliff; 07-28-2015 at 02:13 AM.. |

Pretty much nearly every songs 85+ difficulty can help regardless of how bad you do at them because the moment you manage to adjust to them even slightly, it will directly impact your play on easier songs.

Re: Particular songs that helped a skillboost?
It's super gratifying to hear that people enjoy my files :')
To answer the question, for me when I was improving into the FMO difficulty files, I played a TON of Rottel-da-station. Not all at once (you will permanently mindblock yourself on that intro lol) but constantly going back at the end of each session I played to see how I improved on the song. The first time I realized I was now fast enough to hit the jumptrills reliably was really motivating.

Re: Particular songs that helped a skillboost?
Silence helped me a ton back with consistency and reading when I was first starting out. I've always had issues with extended streams/jumpstreams or extremely technical/bursty segments with no breaks or lower NPS sections within them. Even a short half second break allows for an opportunity to 'reset' yourself if you have a tendency to fall behind and hit later over time during these types of files. Replaying Silence alleviated that issue for a wide variety of songs in that difficulty range at the time (and was probably a good stamina builder despite me not really remembering having stamina issues at that level).
Nowadays if I intend on playing FFR, I'll open SM and play a bunch of Skwid anime bs on 1.1/1.2 for 20 minutes first. Makes everything on FFR feel around 20-30bpm slower. Ty based Skwid. |

Re: Particular songs that helped a skillboost?
I currently practice Staple on Smile for control and technique training when dealing with songs 88+
Skillboosts for myself have never been due to explicitly one song but just an entire day of playing that my training finally payed off. If I had to put a name on any songs that helped me increase skill, it would be Final Fantasy Last Battle Festival and Red Wings Over Baron.
