not sure how good it is, I remember trying to implement it like three years ago; maybe it can be added to FFR as a temporary solution if someone is good enough at changing up the necessary code.

How many users does it allow at a time? Because tinychat can hold 12 users in a single chat room, and that's really awesome. They're all right next to each other, too, at the front of the screen. It's really cool -- it feels like I'm chatting in an in-person conversation. If the webcams were docked to the side, it wouldn't grab my full attention.

Webcams can be selected in multiple instances:


It's like FFR's VC, you can move the camera around -- it's even better in that aspect because you can support as many webcams as you want!

EDIT: I realize, I can't test this installation out in an ideal way because I'm using free webservers, which forces me to use localhost with SQL, but here's the readme packaged with the software:

edit the FLA red5Chat.fla and configure these lines:

_root.IP = "88.191.36.127";
_root.port=1934;

_root.authentificateURL = "http://"+_root.IP+"/red5chat/testlogin.php";
_root.infoUserURL="http://"+_root.IP+"/red5chat/infouser.php";





PHP part (only if you connect to the database for user authentification)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you use the AUTHENTIFICATION (_root.authentification=true):
- Create tables form create_tables.sql
- edit the PHP/connections folder and setup con1.php to connect the database



RED5 part
---------

- create the chat directory on c:\program files\red5\webapps\
- compile the JAVA and put the classes
of course, we would want to assign chat moderators/administrators, but iirc, this is actually possible to set somewhere

red5chat being written in as2 means it has outdated APIs and can't take advantages of new features in as3 unless it was rewritten. i would try to find a better solution, aj.

Completely overlooked the fact that it was in AS2, but I'm not sure if it's even possible to find another chat that can do this much for free. This could just serve as a temporary solution and remove stress/pressure from the devs while they work on something official, I suppose?

yes i realize that, but you're a nobody on ffr afaic l0l.

anyway, red5chat as a viable solution entirely depends on how easy it is to:
1) port to as3
2) customize to use appropriate graphics for its gui for ffr
3) extend it to use home rolled functionality later on (i.e. integration with ffr engines etc.)

While I like these ideas and integrating this into FFR would be a great thing eventually, I don't feel like this sort of stuff should be a major concern right now. We're using a low quality temporary solution at the moment, so if this one is even slightly better why not try to use it? It may still be temporary but it's an upgrade nonetheless..
