I never really acquired the taste for beer, and so far, I don't want to. I'd rather socialize in other ways. I pretty much avoid pub crawls like the plague.

You certainly don't have to pub crawl just to enjoy a brew.

Jameson is pretty good for most occassions.

Love my JD, been drinking it for years. Gentleman Jack is a ripper of a drop, but a bit pricey for regular applications.

CC & dry premixers are great on a night out if you want to avoid the cola or neat drinks.

Probably the only Jim Beam that I can tomach. The rest of the bottom-shelf bottle of piss give me heartburn and taste like diluted nail polish.
This however is rather nice. Bought my dad a bottle of it for his 50th this year.

Not completely biased against beer either. I worked at the Grand Ridge Brewery in victoria for 3 years. A world-class award winning micro-brewery with a variety of very nice beers. Quite fond of their illusive Dark scotch ale 'Supershine' (%13.5%alc/vol), which sells out over 12months prior to each batch that is bottled. Fetching roughly $200/carton.

I never understood why people like Coronas so much. They're so bitter-tasting to me and they skunk really easily (hence the almost mandatory necessity to have one with a lime). Even in Mexico, people don't get anywhere near Coronas -- they're largely export-beers there. If you're going to use a lime with your beer, it should at least accentuate the flavor instead of just covering up the flaws by neutralizing them through the acidity of the fruit. But really, a good beer stands on its own merits and shouldn't require masking (except if the taste of the beer itself is decent but has a bitter aftertaste -- e.g., consider trying lime with a heavier IPA to clean the palette in both terms of taste and malt-coating).

I largely think it's a function of scope, though -- I feel like many people go for Corona because it's popular and omnipresent. But once people branch out and try different things, they quickly put Corona on the backburners to be forgotten indefinitely. It's like how people say they like techno because they listen to Darude - Sandstorm. I always question whether people really like Corona or if they simply haven't tried enough brands yet.

In general though I avoid anything in a clear/green bottle if I can (both are equally poor at maintaining the quality of the hops in a given beer). Brown bottles are the only way to go (they block the wavelength responsible for catalyzing the skunk reaction. Technically, ruby-red is the best shade but it's more expensive to produce).

Yuenglings are very good -- Chimay is excellent, too. I'm one of the few people I know that'll actually drink a Guinness (even though it's not my favorite, I think the taste is interesting). Negra Modelo and Shiner Bock aren't bad, either. Blue Moon was also pretty popular back in Philly although it wasn't anything special to me.

In terms of mixed drinks, though, I go straight for vodka-Sprite/vodka-cranberry or Long Island Iced Teas.

As mentioned earlier -- try Chimay (Belgian Trappist beer). Chimay Blue is the best (Chimay Red a close second). Almost everyone I know who's tried them has loved them. It's a stronger type of beer with hints of spice/fruit and not so much a strong alcoholic flavor -- also fairly sweet. It's also one of the few beers that taste better with age. Even if it's not normally your thing, definitely check it out sometime. The Chimay Grande Reserve 2001 is also outstanding.

In terms of other great Belgian brands though, check out Achel Brune Extra, Orval, Deus, or St. Bernardus.

Back on topic though, I won't touch Natty Ice/Natty Light, Milwaukees Best (worst beer in the world, bar none. It's like downing fermented piss), Bud Light, Corona, or Miller Lite with a ten foot pole.

Corona(w/o lime) is my favorite beer to drink but since it costs a bit more I don't order it very often.

Have you tried a variety of other beers?

I just can't stomach Corona, especially without the lime. Do you enjoy bitter-tasting beers? What do you think of sweeter/spicier/fuller beers?

I haven't tried a WIDE variety of beers to be honest but I do try a new one when presented with it. I usually just drink Budlight or Yuengling because there are always specials on them.

Out of the less expensive beers I think you'll find that stuff like Pabst Blue Ribbon and Rolling Rock are decent alternatives, if you ever get a chance sometime.

Corona was the first beer I've ever had. Simply because I was in Mexico and just turned 18. I started building my taste around that when I went to England to visit family. I drank what my cousins presented me with. Then when I turned 21, my dad presented me with Guinness and Shiner. Always looking for more beer to try.

They don't serve anything other the Budweiser, Bud Light, and Miller Lite at Dynamo games, so I'm out of luck unless I bring my own beer. But I can only drink what I bring in the parking lot.
