i have a stepmania question for mac users

i just downloaded stepmania on my macbook and i cant figure out how to change the speed mods. when i got to metics.ini it wont open. so i tried opening it with microsoft word and then that said it couldnt convert the text... and now i dunno what to do. can someone help me ? thx
