Re: You know what would rock so hard?
Let me show one of my simfiles header.
#TITLE:The Shattered Fortress; #SUBTITLE:Black Clouds & Silver Linings; #ARTISTream Theater; #TITLETRANSLIT:; #SUBTITLETRANSLIT:; #ARTISTTRANSLIT:; #GENRE:; #CREDIT:; #BANNER:banner.jpg; #BACKGROUND:bg.jpg; #LYRICSPATH:; #CDTITLE:virus881.png; #MUSIC:04 The Shattered Fortress.mp3; #OFFSET:-0.180; #SAMPLESTART:182.202; #SAMPLELENGTH:26.000; #SELECTABLE:YES; #BPMS:0.000=99.000,9.000=98.330, ... #STOPS:666.000=2.742, 1417.500=4.510; #TIMESIGNATURES:0.000=4=4; #BGCHANGES:; #KEYSOUNDS:; There is a time signature section already, but it's only editable via text. There's not already a time signature editor in Stepmania. It would be awesome, because it would make easier the job of syncing songs like "The Dance of Eternity" with signatures like 7/16 or something. Also, it would finish with the called "Blue arrow syndrome".

Re: You know what would rock so hard?
Would also be hard to make it work if a song has multiple time signatures.
I once heard this song where it changed from 5/4, then to 7/8, then to 6/8 measure by measure.

Re: You know what would rock so hard?
Constant Motion by Dream Theater changes from the intro to the main rift if I remember correctly. Then Songs like "In the Presence of Enemies P1/P2" and "Ovtavarium" Possibly "Panic Attack" can't go without that change. Might make files less awkward.

Re: You know what would rock so hard?
Yeah.
What I'm proposing is an addition into the editor where you can change time signatures if needed. |

Re: You know what would rock so hard?
The thing is that would make the song unplayable without Cmods; also 20th or 28th notes are not implemented (I hope that some day that would be true)
In many of my simfiles I had blue arrow syndrome, that I had to solve doubling BPMs: · Finally Free · In The Presence of Enemies (between minute 18 and 22) · A Change of Seasons (between minute 16 and 20) · Endless Sacrifice · The Shattered Fortress

Re: You know what would rock so hard?
1) Compatibility issues with people who don't have time sig support
2) People other than you won't give enough of a **** to download it 3) People who don't understand the technicality of it won't download it (i.e. most of FFR and most people who play SM) 4) Stuff like Dream Theater has managed to be stepped in 4:4 measures and nobody cares Ultimately it doesn't affect gameplay other than I HAVE A RED NOTE ON THE BEGINNING OF EVERY MEASURE HURFDURF. Unless this is embedded into SM (it's already in CVS4.0 to some extent but nobody uses that) builds already in use - which it won't be - that completely limits the playability of your files to everybody else

Re: You know what would rock so hard?
The problem isn't with syncing stuff with X/4. It's when we're talking about X/8 measures or even X/16, because the blue or yellow arrow syndrome can get lost the simfile author.
And I think the way it would be implemented is as an editor tool; and when we save the simfile, transform it to 4/4. I think that DDReam Studio should have this implemented. It would be great. EDIT: This is what I meant: http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/1233/...ofeternity.png

Re: You know what would rock so hard?
Yeah, what Virus said.
You could just port the functionality of time signatures into a simple EXE file that everybody could download. |
