That's stupid, they can't ask you to pay them, it's definitely not the same thing. This isn't that great of a defense. Payment for chores, grades, etc. is for motivation. I think that a parent should at least give verbal motivation (positive, negative sometimes results in responses unwanted).

As for Fathers Day, it went alright but nothing really happened.

It's true they can't ask their kids to give them money, but it's possible to help in the house by doing some chores. You don't have to get paid for that. It's a sort of "Thank you for doing everything you do for me".
