Total score
Basically, it would be the sum of your best score on all the songs. It would serve the same function as average rank, but it would never get worse, and it would be easier to keep track of improvement. A 500,000 point improvement on one song could mean as little as .1 average rank increase, which would probably be passed even before you reload levelrank.php. The same increase would look nicer on your total score.
And I doubt it would even take much time, all the data is already on levelrank.php |

Re: Total score
-No need for a self-esteem booster. There's enough of that here, not that I ever cared about self-esteem in respect to this game.
-Takes up space on database for no practical purpose. So I disagree. If you have time to be happy about a 500,000 point increase on a song, keep practicing until you can get a levelrank lower than 50. Yes, I edited this post about 5 times. Also, if you pass a decent FC on a song, your levelrank isn't prone to change so often.

Absurd

Re: Total score
you have average rank to keep track of improvment.
higher points on song=lower rank=lower average rank |

Re: Total score
I believe that tier points, AAA#, FC#, skill tokens, and levelrank are already far more than enough ways to measure improvement.
Like my edit says, if you have time to be happy about a 500,000 point increase, go practice the song until you can AAA it. In regards to songs like Death Piano, until you can get a decent score on it. Also, no matter how small, if something is added, then it takes up space (the code for the calculation, for example). If the space is unnecessary, it doesn't need to be added.

Re: Total score
The more stats that are visible to players, the more differnet kinds of accomplishment people can work towards, the more kinds of people will find something they want to keep playing to improve.
Any stat tabulation and display that isn't too heavy on the database is a good idea IMO. |

Re: Total score
I think the variety of songs in the game account enough for that. There are many benchmark songs that people work towards, like AAAing Vertex BETA or Final Fantasy Last Battle Festival etc. There would be infinite ways to add improvement measurement. There has to be some sort of restriction. At least, redundant ones like this (it's just a more "detailed" analysis of levelrank) can be omitted.

Re: Total score
Hasn't this been suggested before? I don't like the idea. Average rank serves the exact same purpose.

Re: Total score
They are not the same thing at all. Let's say someone got from a (1) to an AAA on Excite Bike. While his average rank will jump up by quite a lot, his total score almost won't rise.

The more different possible goals there are, the more people will keep trying to reach those goals, and the longer they will keep playing FFR. I'm not web designer, but if I would hazard a guess, the database hit would be even less that the database hit from adding a single song to the game. |

Re: Total score
it has been suggested before. i just don't see the need. yes, it is a bit different from average rank... but it isn't THAT much different.

Re: Total score
Overall FFR Rank wasn't designed to keep track of rank based on skill.
Overall FFR Rank/Grand Total Score is something used to brag about your experience and history of FFR. I like the existence of OFR/GTS. It's the only measurement of playing density. Basically, how much time you spend playing FFR. 2000th post.

Re: Total score
it's not inaccurate at all if it measures exactly what it is supposed to measure.
