Recording stepmania

How is this done onscreen? (Directly from the monitor without a camera being held over your shoulder.) Links to program downloads would be greatly appreciated.

try fraps maybe but a real cam is the way to go.

I tried Fraps.... didn't work out too well. I don't happen to have a real camera right now... and I won't get one soon...

EDIT: Also, I forgot, for nicer looking videos, go to Options > Video Options and set quality to 90 or higher. Your video sizes will be huge, but then you can go into Windows Movie Maker and reformat them down to something around 30MB.

Fraps, camtasia studios and camstudio are some good ones. I like camtasia studios but a free one is camstudio.

I selected record sound from speakers, but when I watch what I recorded, there still is no sound. When I try to configure where the sound records, I get the test tone, but it still says 'unrecognized line' after I try to configure the sound recording. Can anyone help, or has anyone had this problem with CamStudio?

I've tried many. Hypercam is the most dependable imo, but cam studios is probably the best one for free, as it records high quality, and it also records sound, but I've run into problems trying to get it to recognize my sound device-- namely, it won't record sound in most cases

Lots of questions... oh dear...
To everyone using CamStudio who can't seem to get the audio to record after checking that box:

Hit Start > Run: type in sndvol32.exe
Then go to Options > Properties

Select Recording, and your checkboxes should look something like my setup:

If that doesn't work for you, play with the setting in that menu, and in CamStudio's audio options menu, under Options > Audio Options > Audio Options For Speakers.

If you still get nothing, try an appz forum, I guess :/
Or, if you must, HyperCam can record sound, but it isn't pretty...

Tried CamStudio. Anyway to get rid of the mouse pointer? Also, very very choppy. Its like 3 images per second slideshow... yeah, 3 frames per second...

Also, supposing I don't need the audio (I hav the mp3 anyways, just edit it into the avi video), which records better video? Hypercam or CamStudio?

I used to use screen recorder gold, and it worked pretty good. It records sound as well but if you make the recording screen to large it might come out a little choppy. Also if the screen recorder or whatever you're using for stepmania won't show up, just go to video options > screen resolution (I think)> window other than fullscreen.

You probably have your quality at the default setting, turn it up to 90 or better. Go to Options > Video Options and mess around in there. Of course then you'll have this 500MB video, so you go into Windows Movie Maker and convert it to a .wmv which will be much smaller.

No, I followed those directions, but it doesnt record well fullscreen. So I lowered the resolution, and it worked fine. I like avis better than wmvs. I never really cared about size... soooo thanks everybody.

One question unanswered... mouse pointer?
