TWG Turbo 41: Trust Fall! [POSTGAME Thread]

    Trust Fall!

Trust Fall! is a nightless(!) and eliminationless(!!) setup with checkpoints. See Mechanics section below for more info.

    Setup
    10 Players (or 12-14 with 3 wolves)
    8 Vanilla Townies
    2 Vanilla Werewolves

    Mechanics
Nightless: The entire game will be one phase, with a maximum game length of 10 calendar days.

Eliminationless: There are no eliminations in the traditional sense of lynches and nightkills. Instead, there is a Trust Fall mechanic. To initiate a Trust Fall, a player must post their trust offer in bold red text (or [twgv] tags), like so: "I trust X". Their trustee, X, must reciprocate in kind. Both players involved in a Trust Fall will immediately exit the game, and their alignments will be revealed.

Trust offers are locked when posted and cannot be changed until the trust is either reciprocated or refused. Consider your trustee carefully before you offer a Trust Fall. Once trust is offered, the trustee must respond with either reciprocation ("I trust X") or rejection ("I don't trust X") within 24 hours of the offer or the offer to Trust Fall will automatically be nullified. Upon rejection or nullification, the offering player regains the ability to offer trust to any player they choose.

Wolf Trust Falls: While wolves cannot Trust Fall together, a trust fall offer from one wolf to another still binds the player offering trust to the same extent as any other player, and the offer must either be rejected or nullified before the wolf is free to offer trust again. A wolf trustee cannot reciprocate the trust offer of another wolf and the wolfteam instantly loses if such reciprocation is attempted.

Checkpoints: There will be a total of up to three (3) checkpoints, dependent on overall game runtime. The first checkpoint will occur roughly 72 hours from game start, with subsequent checkpoints spaced in 72 hour intervals from any Trust Falls that occur.
If no Trust Falls have been initiated voluntarily in the 72 hour period leading up to each Checkpoint, a town-aligned player will be randomly selected and forced to Trust Fall with a randomly selected wolf-aligned player. Posting in thread will be temporarily paused while the forced Trust Fall occurs, and the alignment of both the town and wolf players will be revealed. Any voluntary Trust Falls that occur in the 72 hour interval prior to a checkpoint reset this timer, making the next checkpoint approximately 72 hours after that Trust Fall is announced (rounded to the nearest whole hour).

Win Conditions: Wolves win when they have all exited the game. Town wins when reverse parity occurs and the number of wolves is equal to or greater than the number of town remaining.

I like this setup. It is neat, no one feels bad about being killed, and it can heavily punish town for being too lax. There's also some really neat mechanics with trust falls either confirmed or not confirming someone as town.
I also fucking hate this setup and think that it is more likely than any other to cause emotional conflict.
I think this has potential to get run again sometime for sure.

I would like to see some shorter day phases in a turbo next time, maybe even require it tbqh. This was basically a real game of TWG in terms of length, when turbos are supposed to be the palate cleanser in between games.
I would also like to see the game just immediately end if the last wolf gets a trust offer (which Shado said he would've enforced this game anyways but it would be nice to have that just be clear).

A potentially neat idea is having any trust offers that are on the table get wiped after each checkpoint. If Toko would've actually been able to stop freezin/lewdy from falling with one another by proposing to Haku, that would've been super hype (not sure Haku accepts, but that's cool, too).

That being said, this game is a rare testament to town's ability to rethink things, and while I know it wasn't intentional or done with an ounce of malice, I am glad that the wolves lost after they (unintentionally) slow-rolled.

FFR is a pretty good place somehow.

First of all, I would like to say thank you SO much to ShadoWolfe for hosting such an amazing game. This was a great way for me to dip my toes back into TWG and play with you all again (I know I said a few times in deadchat) but I did miss you all very much.

Secondly, I will NEVER throw shade at Roundbox as his wolf partner. Homie came SO CLOSE to getting us the win. IRL shit happens, and it fell on my shoulders to hold the fort down until he was locked in and ready. I think I did the best I could with what I had and learned many new things (slow rolling, and anti-spew being among the two) as I was flying by the seat of my pants!

Thirdly, and I do believe this requires a separate mention: SHOUTOUTS TO THE NEW PLAYERS WHO JOINED US! If not for you, we'd still be waiting to PLAY this game. Thank you to Tokomi, Gal, and Ducduc! Please feel free to sign up for future games! You guys were amazing.

Overall, I would say 10/10 in terms of enjoyment! I would be so happy to sign up for another game like this again

Thank you to everyone for making my first TWG game an experience I'll honestly never forget. Both good times and bad times were had while playing this, but obviously that's all part of the game. Now that I've actually played instead of just watching from the sidelines, I have so much respect for not only the game but for everyone that continues to play it.

To Lewdy and roundbox, I have no hard feelings. You were doing what you needed to in order to win (even if that Lewdy slow roll really fucked me over unnecessarily), and I can't fault you two for that. Good game.

Obviously, I have to shoutout sun for his reads post before he left. The fact that we were arguing over whether it was something worth doing near the start, only for you to do so and have your post as my lifeline late in the game, is a level of irony that is not lost on me. Trusting in your judgement was essential, especially in my position after the Haku trust fall offer. If Charu hadn't come in and helped me back onto my feet after my emotional outbursts, I continue to insist on being left with roundbox simply because of you.

Charu, you were legitimately my savior in this game, lol. Thank you for risking the game for my sake. I more than likely don't have a positive impression of TWG if I just sit and cry in my corner until the game ends, so I appreciate that a lot. And thank you to raeko for also starting to believe in me around the same time as well.

Haku, I also want to say that I have no hard feelings towards you either. You saw your truth and you stuck to it, and I respect the hell out of that. Just... maybe give new players a little bit more grace in the future, yeah? :P

Finally, I just want to thank you guys for thinking so highly of my play that I wound up being considered a wolf for a good majority of the time. I get that there's an equal part of that which is just paranoia and fear of the unknown, but no one here handled me with kiddie gloves, which is what I was hoping for coming in. As someone who entered this game looking for a true TWG experience, I definitely feel like I got it.

I don't plan on playing in the next game, but I will be back. TWG is such a unique beast, and I look forward to my next one (but I'm not gonna build it up in my head like this time!).

                      GG everybody!!

I also really enjoyed this setup and would play it again

I agree with sunfan's ideas re: shorter day phases and wiping the trust offers after checkpoints. Even if this wasn't supposed to be a turbo I think a shorter day phase/time crunch just works for this sort of setup

What a rollercoaster that was. Special shout outs to SunFan for making sure we were on the right path and Charu for doubling down and making the call that enabled Haku to come in and win it for us. Those two are absolutely tied for MVP worthiness in my book

Anyway, sorry there were so many times I thread where I said I would be back and do xyz, but then life kept getting in my way. I have a few IRL projects I am trying to work on and I've also been preoccupied with my day job and getting that promotion (which btw, yesterday I was told I was approved for it MSR V baby---any more and I'll be too high up to take regular phone calls)

It was a fun experience but I won't lie, I don't think I would be interested in this set up without some major tweaks to it. Ending the round when someone offers trust to a wolf automatically is a good suggestion, and I think I can get behind shorter phases as well.
