SOTW List .. Yes, We Fell Behind Posting But They Are All In

Posted in Song of the Week on February 9th, 200738 Comments »

We’ve been falling behind lately in the announcements on the Songs of the Week. Sorry about that, but this will get it all caught up.

Added last Friday (February 2, 2007) was Destiny, our first collaboration simfile. What’s a collaboration simfile? It’s just one simfile, with one set of steps, done by two people. This simfile was done by Rebirth0, AND i love you. Song is by Smiley, and can be found in the first page of Dance2. It’s a fairly easy simfile but it has a couple difficult parts, which is why this simfile is a 4 on the difficulty scale.

—————————————————————

Added last Sunday (February 4, 2007) was World of Dreams. Song by DJ Karbon, steps by hi19hi19. There are hundreds of jumps in this simfile, but that doesn’t mean it’s hard, or not fun. It is fun to play, and it’s only a 3.5 on the 6-point difficulty scale. It can be found in the third page of Dance.

—————————————————————

And now for today. Our SOTW#1 for this week is {Frozen}. A nice addition to the collection of cornandbeans simfiles we have in the game. Bahamut-X did the steps to this song, and they’re not as easy as you would expect. This simfile has quite a lot of 16th streams and 16th jumpstream, which is why we rate it a 5 on the difficulty scale. Right now it can be found in the first page of Dance2, but it will soon be moved to the second or third page.

Have fun,

Rebirth0

Coactive: Unleashed upon the public!

Posted in Song of the Week on January 26th, 200726 Comments »

Coactive, by long time FFR music producter SuperGreen X, marks the first post-dated file release in FFR history. It was added to the database a week ago, and was played by aproximately 45 people before tonight’s release. Who are these lucky people? Well, they are those amazing people who feel that FFR is so much apart of their lives, that they will subscribe to the site for extra content. A future post, in the near future, will give much more focus on subscriptions.

You can find Coactive in the lower left hand corner of Dance. It was stepped by unknown and newcomer debit13. The steps are a bit difficult compared to the music, but everything flows together quite nicely.

Enjoy.

RED ALERT!!! MORE CORNANDBEANS AHEAD!!!

Posted in Song of the Week on January 19th, 200755 Comments »

We bring you another long overdue cornandbeans file, by long time forumite Neonatrias. Red Alert is a short and very up-tempo song. Most of the file is 185bpm, but it is only 496 notes total. Not TOO difficult, although Sunday’s file will be easier. I managed to black flag it twice in a row, but no AAA yet.

You can find it in Misc. Page 2, upper left hand corner. We are working very hard on either combining Hip Hop and Funk together into 1 group and making the empty one Dance 2 OR adding a 10th genre for Dance 2. Expect one of these in the near future, to make it easier to sort through Dance… all 7+ pages of it as of now.

Enjoy,

-Tass (and I know Jason will add in all the links for me. :) )

Song of the Week 1: Be Princess

So, it’s Friday night, which under our new system means it’s time for the first of this week’s two new songs. Tonight we release the song Be Princess, by DJ Sharpnel (Warning: link contains “not safe for work” material). It’s been AGES since we’ve released a song by Sharpnel, the most recent one being Torinouta (19 songs ago), so we’re happy to bring you yet another song from this commonly-stepped artist. The song is very challenging (as you’d expect from its difficulty rating), and contains many bursts of 16ths at 190 BPM. The steps are by longtime FFR veteran Jimerax.

Another song will be released Sunday, as promised. Have fun with Be Princess.

Happy FFR’ing,

Shash

I Can See The Light…. FINALLY!

Posted in Song of the Week on January 7th, 200737 Comments »

So, I Can See The Light by Pyroshock and stepped by Silver_Brian has been sitting in my queue since the end of SEPTEMBER. That is over 3 and a half months. Needless to say, I felt obligated to add it, since no other file has been in the queue more than 6 weeks.

(p.s. It’s in the lower *left* corner of dance, and has a difficulty of “Standard”. -Shash)
(p.p.s. Apparently, I can discern my right from my left in only TWO tries. Mad skillz. -Shash)

Enjoy.

-Tass

Also: Congrats to our 2 new MP Mods, Rebirth0 and Windscarredfaith.

Songs, Songs, Songs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, since our queue keeps growing and growing and growing, we’ve decided to make Friday’s our second official release day for new songs. We’ll release a new song EVERY Friday in addition to EVERY Sunday. 2 new songs, each and every week, for all eternity, or at least until our queue gets down low again.

Tonight’s file is back to the Classics. Turkish March is another Beethoven piece stepped by our resident classical stepfile expert, Reach. It seems fairly simple at first, but the entire song is laced with jacks, which makes it a nightmare to FC on FFR (I’ve yet to break a 350 combo in about 20 trial attemps, but I can FC every time in SM).

Anywho, enjoy the new song and the news of getting 2 new songs a week instead of the previous one.

PS – If you didn’t notice, we removed the jacktacular ending arrows in Synesthetic, reducing it from 773 to 769 arrows. It is now AAAable. Unfortunately, we had to wipe the High Score list for this song. So, you’ll need to replay it if you care about having a score on every song.

Boycotting URL links because I’m lazy, (note: I am not flazy ;) jason)

New Song! CAUSE I FEEL LIKE IT!!!

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution, Song of the Week on December 29th, 200663 Comments »

So, I started a new job about 3 weeks ago. First 2 weeks were training for a few hours a day; real simple stuff. This week was the start of the REAL training, on site. Worked about 37 hours over the past 4 days, and expect that trend to continue next week, the week after, and every week after that (50+ hours for the non-holiday weeks). Not to mention working 12 hours today alone.

What did I want to do when I got home tonight? Play a new song in FFR. And what do you know… I have the ability to add a new song to FFR. So I’m doing it. BECAUSE I WANT TO! Enjoy.

This song has been in the queue forever. One of the 1st songs I received after taking over SotW duties, yet it hasn’t made it in… until now. Chaotic Sound is a song with a nice hard beat, by our very own RaVeRaVeR, who goes by DJ Chaos for his musical endeavors. Stepped by my main man Jimerax, you’ll be sure to love it. Not too difficult of a song… I’ve SDGed every time I’ve played it, although yet to AAA. You can find it in Dance, lower left hand corner.

In other news, you may have noticed that some of the difficulties were changed on certain levels. FINALLY, right? They now all reflect the difficulties that we, as a community, feel are accurate, as per this thread. Big thanks go to Shashakiro for fixing this…. cause I was too busy bring home the big bucks.

Don’t worry either… there will still be another song released on New Year’s Eve… but it won’t be SotY. Unfortunately, there has been a slight delay to SotY, which will be released as soon as it is finished.

Rockin’ In The New Year… 2 days early,

Tass

The 12th Song of FFRmas: Carol Megamix by Hiro

Posted in Song of the Week on December 24th, 200662 Comments »

Well guys, this entire thing has been a lot of work for me, but SO MUCH fun too. And it wouldn’t be a proper ending without a holiday jingle. Carol Megamix is probably well known already by many of you, from O2Jam. Not only did Rebirth step this, he also went out and got permission to use it from Hiro.

In case you were wondering, the songs in the mix are:
0:00-0:15 – Made up
0:15-0:39 – Jingle Bells
0:39-1:03 – Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
1:03-1:16 – Made up
1:16-1:30 – Joy to the World
1:30-2:19 – Santa Claus is Coming to Town
2:19-2:36 – Made up

You can find the Megamix in Misc. It will be in the upper left for the next week (and every Christmas season in the future), but in non-Christmas time, it will be at the end of Misc, past Jelly Roll Blues. I’d say it is a 4 or 4.5 in difficulty, nothing too challenging, BUT… you may say that this file is overstepped. Well, it is. But there is a very good reason for it… I’m sure everyone will figure out what that reason is for themselves. :)

So, have a Merry Christmas everyone! Or a Happy Hanukkah, if you’re an Israelite like myself. And we wouldn’t want to forget about our friends who celebrate Kwanzaa, Festivus, or any other End-of-December joyous event.

We’ll go back to our normal SotW starting next Sunday night. Or will we….

Enjoy your presents from FFR and enjoy the mystery,

Tass & all the other not-quite-as-cool FFR Staffers.

CHARDISH EDIT: Tass, you only wish you were as cool as me.

I wanted to thank everyone for their enthusiasm during the 12 Songs of FFRmas. These songs were all kind of like Christmas presents for you, but everyone’s support for the game is like a constant year-round present for us. We love you guys.

A bunch of the music for these 12 days was taken from 3rd Style. As the music coordinator for 3rd Style, let me assure you that there’s still plenty of good stuff on the way. All of 3rd’s music is very good – and while some of the best songs were featured this week, some of the best is still yet to come. Keep waiting for it – trust me, it’s going to be phenomenal.

Cheers,
Chardish

Day 11: Play It Funky by CanBlaster

Posted in Song of the Week on December 24th, 200641 Comments »

Well… despite what y’all may think, I do have a life outside of FFR. Which is why the past 2 songs have been late in their release. Also, because it is quite late, this news post will be brief.

This song is our first Funk song in FOUR FULL YEARS, and completes my goal of adding at least 1 new song to every genre. Play it Funky is a remix of the song Play That Funky Music by the one hit wonder band Wild Cherry. Remix is by CanBlaster and the stepfile is by dore. You can find it in funk, currently 2nd row in the middle, although this may change. The song is not very difficult to Full Combo, although the odd syncopation will make it a wee bit harder to AAA.

Enjoy and may the funk be with you,

Tass
