Default TC_Halogen's High Speed Bracket Tournament

2/1/2015 - This tournament has been cancelled. Those who participated in the mock qualification will receive compensation.

PLEASE FILL OUT THE POLL ABOVE THIS THREAD AFTER READING THE RULES. IT WILL BE A GREAT HELP.

TC_Halogen's High-Speed Bracket Tournament

Hello again! I’m really excited to bring you guys another user tournament that I can run under the constraints of my own rules, where traditions like the official tournament are not necessary to uphold. Being able to do things my way means I can spend more time engaging with those playing in my tournaments, and I find that to be really important to the success of my previous Halloween and Christmas tournaments.

With that, I bring you guys the High-Speed Bracket Tournament.

I. Objectives/Summary

This tournament is quite a bit different to many tournaments that are hosted on FFR, for a number of reasons; with that being said, I very strongly recommend that you read this post in entirety to understand how this tournament differs. I will redirect you to this original post if you ask a question that can be answered here.

I wanted to do this tournament for two reasons:

- I’m not a huge fan of division based tournaments, despite FFR’s general complacency in them.
- I wanted to bring about a more realistic tournament standard that is found in other games.

A bracket tournament is not the norm on FFR, but I would like to give it a shot and execute it in a way that I feel is effective. Onto the rules!

II. Scoring and Eliminations/Details
This tournament will be scored using FFR's raw scoring system, and will be played on MULTIPLE ENGINES.

While songs will mostly be played on the official FFR engine, you will also be utilizing custom engines as well. Songs from custom engines will be used during the qualification rounds in combination with very swift timeframes for completion to allow for seeding that is performance-based as opposed to overall ability over long periods of time. I will be creating a specific playlist on the Dragons’ Fury custom engine to be playable on Legacy, Velocity, and R^3 engines. If you have not played on this engine, do not worry: I will provide links to all three variants of the engine prior to qualification.

This tournament will consist of a set number of rounds, depending on the number of registrants involved. The format of this tournament is double elimination based off of best-of-3 and best-of-5 matches, with best-of-5 matches occurring during either the quarter-final or semi-final rounds, depending on the number of entrants. In order to be seeded, you will have to submit a score for every qualifier. Seeding will be based on your rank compared to other competitors on the qualifiers, with the best score in the division receiving 1 point, and the worst score receiving n points, where n is the number of competitors that completed their qualifiers.

As a reminder, the qualifying periods are going to be VERY fast, and you will not have a lot of time to do them. I very highly suggest that you get initial scores on all songs and then attempt to improve as time permits.

III. Qualifications and Time Frames
Sign-ups will be open until January 30th at the latest, but I may choose to close signups slightly earlier if sign-ups stagnate relatively quickly.

Tournament qualification will consist of seven songs picked from various sources, converted to FFR files, each scaling upward in difficulty. QUALIFYING WILL LAST FOR EXACTLY ONE HOUR AFTER FILES ARE DISTRIBUTED TO YOU. SCORE IMAGES WILL BE SUBMITTED THROUGH A GOOGLE FORM THAT WILL BE SENT PRIVATELY TO ME. In this thread, a poll has been created that will ask about the best day and time of availability for qualifiers. I want to accommodate for as many people as I can, but in order for this to be the best experience, time for qualification must be heavily constrained.

I had an additional but flawed consideration of allowing users to schedule their qualification periods, but the issue of word-of-mouth becomes problematic when users that are buddy-buddy decide to try and help each other out and give advantages to modify potentially accurate seeds.

IV. Rounds / Tournament Play
Once qualification has been completed, seeds will be organized in a bracket using the popular website, Challonge, which will populate a double elimination bracket based off of the seeds that have been calculated through the qualification process. Once the brackets have been generated, tournament rounds will begin.

All tournament rounds will have a one day scheduling period, followed by a six day round period (for a total of seven days per round) where match pairings can get together and set up a commonly convenient time for match play during the evening time, where I am available to update and moderate gameplay. A spreadsheet containing time-slots for tournament rounds will be prepared prior to each round to give users the opportunity to see matches in action. If a pairing fails to communicate a common time of availability, I will schedule you into a time-slot on my own. NOTE: If all matches conclude before round’s end, I will conclude the round and notify all users still remaining in the tournament that we have reached scheduling for the next round.

Matches will initially consist of three songs, with the best of 3 moving onto the next round, and the loser falling into the loser’s bracket, until quarter-finals or semi-finals, depending on the number of users that qualify. Within each match, a range of 5 minutes to two times the song length (whichever is longer) will be assigned and given to a player dependent on the song that ischosen. There will be a five minute break in between songs to allow for organization of scores. Be in the thread at your scheduled time to ensure you get the full amount of the already extremely little time that you have. During the scheduling period of the round, each user will send me three (or five, if far enough in) different, official FFR songs that they desire to play during the given tournament round. During the scheduled tournament round play, songs will be picked at random from these lists, with the better seeded player’s list being picked from first. In the event of a 1-1 or 2-2 situation in a best of 3 or best of 5 match, the final song will be picked at random from the entire round’s pool of songsfor temporary use (temporary meaning the song will not be removed from the player’s list it resides on).

V. Rules/Information
I will reiterate: Sign-ups will be open until January 30th at the latest, but I may choose to close signups slightly earlier if sign-ups stagnate relatively quickly.

1.) You must have a minimum of 250 games on your FFR account, spanning over at least 75 fully played songs, with an account age of at least 0.1 years. This is not only to ensure that alternate accounts don't raid the tournament, but also to ensure that I can make a proper placement based off of your level ranks. SIGN UP WITH YOUR MAIN ACCOUNT. If you enter using an alternate account and I catch you, you will be removed and will not be allowed in under any account.

2.) NO CHEATING. If at any point in the tournament I feel like you have used/abused any loophole, exploited any particular rule, played on someone else's account/had someone else play on your account, or have used other means to increase your scores, I will remove you and consider further consequences.

3.) Be respectful to all other competitors in this tournament. Arguments will NOT be tolerated, and can result in immediate removal in the tournament. An infractions system will be used to ensure that the tournament does not go out of hand.

4.) If you fail to submit for a prize round while still in the tournament, you will not receive your prize, and your prize will be passed down to the next place down!

Infractions:
A blue name means you have not been handed any infractions (equal to zero points).
A green name means you have been handed a minor infraction (equal to one point).
An orange name means you have been handed a moderate infraction, or two minor infractions (equal to two points).
A red name means you have been handed three minor infractions, a minor infraction and a moderate infraction, or a severe infraction (equal to three points).

CURRENT INFRACTIONS
(none)

Three infraction points during the span of the tournament will result in immediate removal from the tournament, no exceptions. If you continue to harass the tournament thread, you will be banned accordingly.

Examples of point values:
- 1 point: overly aggressive complaining about song choice - dislike towards song choice is perfectly acceptable, but saying that a file is shit/garbage is rude to the person who created the notechart which went through a review process.
- 1 point: disregarding requests from the tournament host (me) to stop moderate complaints (i.e. complaints from multiple users past a single post).
- 1 point: complaining about/implying an incorrect divisional placement outside of private messages
- 2 points: trolling users/tournament host for scores/decisions involving the tournament; intentionally starting unrest within the tournament thread due to disagreements/song choices/etc.
- 3 points: flaming users/tournament host [etc.]

These are subject to change and will vary based on aggressiveness/severity of actions.

VI. Submission Guidelines
DURING THE QUALIFICATION ROUNDS, ALL SCREENSHOTS WILL BE SUBMITTED TO A GOOGLE FORM THAT WILL BE LINKED LATER DURING SIGN-UPS.

DURING REGULAR TOURNAMENT MATCHES, SCORES WILL BE POSTED IN SCREENSHOT FORM INSIDE OF THE THREAD. Replays alone will not be accepted and will result in a score of 0 if provided without a screenshot. In a tournament round, scores need to be submitted within the timeframe given for each song, which ranges from 5 minutes to twice the length of the song (whichever is longer). Failure to submit in this period will result in a score of 0 for the round.

VII. Prizes/Donations
Donations are always greatly appreciated. I'm going to kick off the tournament with 250,000 credits. Send all donations to TC_Halogen.
