I need motivation to step

Seriously, I haven't finished a file in a long time and round 3 of the tourney is coming up soon. I have over 10 WIPs (including lots of Bemani stuff, a few Marvel/Capcom songs, and a few other random things) and yet I lack the drive to finish a single one. What's going on? I just don't get it. I get a few measures in, and then just feel like exiting out of SM.

@Kommi:I will, however, finish my part of mystic 11 (up to 3:20 if I'm not mistaken.) Need to finish that file for sure.

the best way to motivate yourself is probably to say to yourself that this NEEDS to be done and just focus yourself onto it. start slow, i.e. open note pad, make a list of all songs you might step/all WIPs either from the top of your head or as you listen to them on your mp3 player, highlight strengths and weaknesses, evaluate each one. this will naturally lead into a desire to step one or two songs, so do them. get rid of any distractions you have and pick a period of time that's long and uninterrupted if possible

don't step a song without listening it through, evaluating it, forming a mental map of how it should look. think about difficult areas ahead of time, not when you ram up against them; if you know what's coming up before you get to it you'll be more determined and less likely to ram against a section that's just too hard to step and lose your motivation.

once you're in the mindset it'll just flow out. also think of any rewards/benefits you'll get for completing the thing and try to focus on them as opposed to focusing on the possibility that you won't finish/be able to finish

oh and one more thing, try not to let WIPs pile up. from personal experience, the best way to dissuade myself from stepping something is to only go part way through it. once that happens it'll only be done if I REALLY REALLY want to

you'd know all about bein korean eh

my motivation usually comes from an idea. if i have an idea for a simfile that i know will make it enjoyable (usually for myself since that motivates me more if i love the file) then i'll usually poop it out in like 2 hours tops. if you dont have a general picture of what your file is going to be it might be really hard to finish in one shot or you won't find anything appealing about your file.

i have like 10wips that i dont feel like finishing yet sometimes ill start a file that i have plenty of idears for and finish super fast (fermion took me an hour)
