Fuccen Noteskins

Why is there no easy way to get noteskins?
Staiain's site is kinda dead. Some of the downloads still work, unfortunately all the noteskins that do suck. I get a 404 when I tried to download Jousway's noteskins.
If there's some central depository of noteskins where the downloads actually work and I don't know about it, please point me in that direction. I've been known to be oblivious to obvious things before XD

Anyway I'm looking for the following 3.9a-compatible noteskins:
- The traditional SM Note colored arrows. For some reason I don't have this: I only have Arch0wl's off Staiain's site, and he got 48ths and 64th colors mixed up, plus no white/grey arrows.
- A HD FFR noteskin with non-retarded looking holds.

Any help is appreciated.

Not sure if srs. I used to have Wired, I thought it looked like it was made in 5 seconds with paint. Years later, I still have the same opinion. Not really sure why so many people insist it "helps"

That wouldn't be a bad idea.
I've also always thought we could re-upload the entire simfile database... without the songs. Just the .sm files and graphics and then specific instructions on which mp3 to use (i.e. use the live version 2006 from xyz album). But that's a topic for another thread.

I have been using wired pretty much since I first passed quasar. I think the real reason people think it helps is because when you look closely at it, the veins on it grow out. Plus the colors are slightly less monotonus with the sparkly gold.

The current FFR noteskin I have has shitty artifacts around the edges of the arrows and the holds are literally a grey rectangle. No idea where I got this noteskin (probably off Staiain's wiki again) but I'd like something with a little more artistic grace than MS Paint, that's all.

And yeah I don't doubt 3.9 sucks ass but I can't be bothered to re-download SM again lol lazy

also, what are your graphic settings? Maybe it's affecting the quality because it's set low (16bit textures, 512 texture quality, etc etc)

I've been working on an FFR noteskin for myself. Didn't know about your FFR HD. I think mine looks closer to the original but I'm not sure. Might share if anyone cares but I the holds still look kind of retarded and I didn't make the holds for solo at all

I think it's for 3.9... I didn't even know 4 existed let alone 5 so I just downloaded that one.

If you do then just tell me what version you'd like it for and I'll just complete it if I have time. I'm just not really sure what to do for the holds, might go take a look at Jousway's skin and plagiarize

I made a comparison chart (really easy one LOL) to compare

the top one is mine
middle one is original ffr
and bottom one is TomatoShadow



also my FFRHD noteskin is really outdated for 3.9/3,95/4
it uses a really old code and has a load of bugs.
one of the problems is what I also saw in your noteskin.



the thing is pixels are squares so when you rotate them with a 45 degree what happens is all the pixels dont get rotated to 45 degree cuz it cant do that haha.
but the way to fix this is just to use redir/sprite the same we use for all the other directions.
like for example if we look at

Left Tap Note 4th.sprite

BaseRotationZDegrees=90

we can just use this, so we make UpLeft Tap Note 4th.sprite and add some code.

and it will still be the same quality like it should be


man the noteskins in 3.9 and stuff are done so bad, I could make better support ages ago, but I don't because I want people to use sm5 because noteskins are way less bugged and way better coded and organized.

also I'm the best noteskin person out there, I know the codes from the inside out, I know the bugs from the inside out, I can do full 3d stuff, and everything else noteskin related so if you ever need help just ask haha.

Oh okay,

To be honest I just grabbed that FFR noteskin going around and changed the images for ones I colored myself using an HD render someone here made (can't remember who). So I didn't change the files. And yeah, I didn't bother, just rotated the arrows, I also noticed the jag but oh well! From what I saw it does the same thing on your 3.9 noteskin :P Useful to know the rotate thing. I'm not really familiar with the metric.ini and all so yeah.

I made it so that it works with sm5 but I was planning on redoing the arrows. On that comparison chart yours does look better :P Except that, for my defense, the original have no transparency in them.

I noticed in sm5 you could have higher resolution arrows too so I was planning on making high resolution arrows but I might just use your noteskin. You mentioned sm5 but do you have your FFRHD noteskin for it?

Also, I mostly played with the color with a hue/channel mixer without actually repainting anything. Can I ask how did you make yours?

I did it all manualy with photoshop, multiple layers, gradient overlay and stuff, I have been using photoshop since 1999 so shit is easy for me, and yes I have my FFRHD noteskin for sm5

Alright thanks. Yeah, I'm a photoshop veteran too haha. Just didn't really bother. I'm glad to see someone did the job for me because that other old ffr noteskin was just so bad.

Couldn't find the sm5 noteskin on your website or Youtube, maybe you should update your links or something! Unless you're not really using those anymore.

And I'm really used to the FFR arrows so I don't think I'll need any other noteskin, thanks
