Red face I'm having trouble making simfiles. Could someone help me?

I really want to get started to make simfiles. It would be very nice if I at least was able to make a proper simfile, but I can't. And for the simplest reason: I can't hear when the arrows must be placed. I'm having great trouble for finding out when to put the arrows, mostly because I have no experience in music at all. I think it has something with the bpm and the notes and stuff, but it would be a very nice if someone could help me out of this little problem.

Thank you in beforehand:

I'm using a music program to slow down and listen closely. Doing that, you'll hear more than one part more clearly and help you decide on what arrows to use instead of 'when'.

I don't know how the majority here does it, but the music program might be the best if you have the patience.

Become jimerax.

On a more serious note, stepping requires some form of predetermined knowledge aka talent. Learn music, is all I can tell you.

Stepping came naturally to me because I've done the playing, the composing, and the studying of music for about 12 years.

PR is important. BPM is important. Offset is important. Then, the fun factor is important. You have to understand PR and fun factor after you get the initial BPM and offset.

First you'll need to find the BPM.

http://www.mixmeister.com/bpmanalyzer/bpmanalyzer.asp

Once you found the song BPM then get into Stepmania and change the BPM, then go to Song Options and change the rate to 0.6, now that the song is slower it will be easier to find where the notes will go. And you can also go to Song Options and put on assist tick and see if the notes are on sync with the song.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Also you can change the offset of the song if it is needed, in some cases it makes the song better. Also be sure the patterns in the song are fun to play, you can always try playing a song by a very good simfile artist and pay attention to how the notes were placed.
