Yes, they fix the problem, but I don't want to just block all ads on FFR. I click on some of the ads to help the site, I don't think paying for a subscription should be necessary to avoid redirects. Synth/Tass obviously agree since they ask us to help track down and kill these ads. Rather than coming in here and saying "Durr durr block all ads" without giving any help to the situation at hand, use your internet superpowers to track these scripts.

Those of you who have noscript installed, enable one script at a time until you find out which advertiser is hosting the redirects. Post your findings. I'm doing the same but haven't had any luck yet. Maybe if more of you internet detectives would apply yourselves rather than give the trivial solution, we'd have gotten somewhere by now.

I was (trying to) browse this thread earlier when I wasn't on my account, just as a guest. I couldn't stay in the thread long enough to even read what was going on, kept opening up a .pdf with a bunch of random text in it.

Well then you have been infected with the latest Adobe exploit. Update your virus scanner, run it, and update your Adobe. That's much different (and dangerous) than this issue.

It was on a school's computer. Mine doesn't do that, only redirects.

Since you're saying to figure out where the scripts are coming from -- I'd be willing to help if you gave me detailed instructions on how to go about doing it.

Maybe look through the temporary internet files and see if there is any recently accessed .js files that don't belong to FFR. They can be opened with notepad to view the code. I'm not sure if the script is in a seperate javascript file or not, but it seems likely to me. I might sign off to try to find the problem myself.

edit: oh yeah, you also need to be on a different browser than firefox to do it because firefox uses its own cache system that stores the files in a non openable state in a different location than the temporary internet files folder.

It happened to me once so i read this (along with a few others) thread and decided to try to figure it out. Unluckily for the sake of the mission i couldnt get it to happen to me again. However if it were to have happened i would have used:
PeerGuardian 2 to find the IP address it connected me to use that to find information associated to the redirect.
I suppose you could also use the program SmartSniff.
Anyway, im not well versed on the specifics but that might be a good place to start.

Ya, I've been trying all I can to track down exactly what sets off the script (it has to be javascript) so I've been working in Chrome and IE, since Firefox blocks it. Not luck so far. Like I said before, this is the closet I've gotten.

Could this be the IP address its coming from?

Oh thank you, I didn't know such an addon existed.

So far I haven't been able to come across a redirect.

edit:

Since I'm the last one who posted I'll go ahead and announce without bumping this thread that this issue has been fixed for those who might be browsing this thread for some reason without knowing that all the old adds that have caused the redirect problem have been removed.

Here's a quote from Synthlight.

Cheers,

Synthlight
