Good website host anyone?
I am looking for a good website host. I know there's a lot out there, but I have got a lot of deceptions in the past.
I also need PHP and MySQL, so that narrows the field of possibilities. I am ready to pay to get a good host, but if I can get a good service for free, that's even better. So, have you ever got a website hosted? How did it went? I am waiting for your recommendations. PS: For those wondering, I am going to use this site for a lot of different things. The Stepmania-France site I am working on, a couple of FFR related things that will get known in due time and other random things I feel like doing. |

Re: Good website host anyone?
Well, I started off with a company named Byethost (hosted my site plus a version of Red Fraction). Switched to HostGator last year and have since moved again to NixiHost.
Your best bet to start off would be bluehost. Here's the info on their professional hosting plan ($6.95/mo): UNLIMITED Hosting Space (NEW!) UNLIMITED File Transfer (NEW!) web hostingHost UNLIMITED Domains!!! 2,500 POP/Imap Email Accounts SSH (Secure Shell), SSL, FTP, Stats CGI, Ruby (RoR), Perl, PHP, MySQL 2000/2002 Front Page Extensions Free Domain Forever! Free Site Builder (NEW) 24/7 Superb/Responsive Sales/Support http://www.bluehost.com/ If you need assistance, then I would be glad to help you.

I really like bluehost for now. I will continue looking around though. I want to make sure to get the best host I can.

Looks like those are only dedicated servers, MalDON. He said that he is ready to pay for a good host, but I don't think he'd want to go dedicated until he knows what he's up against (ie. Traffic-wise).
But Media Temple does look interesting, I think I'm going to take a further look into it just out of curiosity.

That sounds really cool, but it is way too much for the small audience there will be.
And even though it is not going to be overpopulated, I still want some touch of professionalism fido. And I really doubt they have MySQL servers... |

Re: Good website host anyone?
They don't.
FriendPages is a simple, multi-page personal website builder for people who are either looking for a very small website or just starting out with sites, and in addition to that, has advertisements. I would not pay for this, even if it did have a premium service with no ads.

Re: Good website host anyone?
While a webhost is good, it's a pain to upload and manage things when you're working out webpages. Tis' why I use a local server for testing stuff then upload via FTP.

Media temple has a simple shared solution, 20 dollars a month.

If nobody caught on I was being sarcastic. I'm appalled you think I would actually type like that.

And MalDON, Shared Solutions? 20 bucks IS pretty expensive when you look at it. Bluehost has unlimited storage and bandwidth (they give you a godly amount of this and that and expect you not to use it all), apparently you get a free domain for life, and all together, it's only like 6 or 7 dollars every month. I assume that your price may be annually, because $20 a month is too expensive for a shared host.

Re: Good website host anyone?
I looked at mediatemple, and it really is $20 a month. A little too much for me shall I say. I also have a local server to test my files, but no where to upload them.
Anyway, I finally decided to go with bluehost. I am really impressed by what they offer and their price. They offer like 100x what you would need on a site. PS: I know you were joking fido, don't worry. I am not THAT stupid. |
