Got a job
I pretty much never talk about my personal life on this site, but whatever. I've been out of school for several months now and I finally got a job. My official title is a "Software Quality Assurance Analyst".
Should be interesting. I've never really made enough money to actually buy things for myself so I don't even know what I'll do. I'll likely first get myself some new monitors and then build a seedbox with 12+ harddrives. Maybe upgrade my graphics card... I might even start eating food that isn't fast food. |

grats
questions: does your benefits package mention anything about 401k matching and are you hourly or salary?

Re: Got a job
If your job offers a 401k matching program, go at least as high as your company will match you. Otherwise you are throwing away free money.

I guess at that point I'll probably get my own place, but honestly there is hardly a point. My parents house at the moment is about 10 minutes from work and soon they will be moving somewhere else for my dads work. I'll have the entire house to myself anyway. Might as well save the money. |

Re: Got a job
One piece of advice I can offer is start spending your money on experiences rather than on things. It makes your life a hell of a lot more fun.

Re: Got a job
Small increases in quality of life which are sustainable will make you much happier than a bunch of excessive expenditures off the top that you can't keep up.
Before you start getting the bigger paychecks, set up an automatic either redirection or withdrawl of money right around payday into some sort of RRSP or high-interest savings account. Get it pulled out before you even have a chance to get used to having it, and you'll be set for life. |
