Default Breakcore anybody?

I rarely post on the musician's forum and I don't know how things are run here, but could I get some honest critique on a 5/4 time signature breakcore drum loop? Try not to be biased.

I was inspired by Venetian Snares' Swindon which is in a 7/4 time signature. Over the past year I've really got a knack for complex time signatures but I never really tried to incorporate them into the stuff I make. Here's a shot at 5/4... just for reference you might know the theme song to the well known movie "Halloween". It's composed in 5/4. So, just tell me what you think of it and whether or not you think I should expand upon this style or maybe it's just not my thing.

I submitted it as a song rather than a loop because it was more than half a minute. The song's called Nen.

I could always add synths, but it doesn't really matter. I made this in an hour or so.

It's alright, sounds nothing like V snares though lol.
I couldint make a decent drum break if my life depended on it.

I thought it was pretty cool. Thought I wouldn't call it breakcore, breakcore is usually much faster and harder e.g. Ladyscraper. 5/4 is pretty cool though, I know it's pretty hard to play in from experience so it must be tough to make something coherent in it.

Breakbeat = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qk-FFrfE0kk
Breakcore = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0wj76YObNI and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNfXotaFnjo

As you can see Breakbeat doesn't have the heavy distortion in the break/percussion and is usually slower.

I would call this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBDAunPkSAY breakbeat too.

As for your song. as far as automation goes you got that pretty well. And twit could write in 5/4 or 7/8 and nobody would notice.
When you get into weird signature you'll notice that people, since they can't "bob their head to it without looking like they are having a seizure". They won't even pay attention to the time signature.

Unless you are writing something like DM Azhura's Seven...You don't have a choice there.

My only problem with the song is that it didn't go anywhere, it didn't have something to look forward to.
I would work on that, or, if you want to stick with the just drums thing, I would layer them.
Like...check out that aphex video I posted up there, his drums are layered like crazy, it really adds all of the frequencies you need to make the song sound full.

Thanks for the feedback. I've only layered anything like once in my life, so I looked it up and didn't realize how much there was to it. And true, I guess it is more along the lines of a breakbeat.

Here's one of my favorite 5/4 pieces

I don't know I feel like time signature is useful only entirely for the composer. I can imagine having some very interesting cross time signature melodies evolving in that fashion. I figure if you are really insane you can still beat your track to have a 4/4 feel but organized entirely at your own will. Of course, it's much easier to do this while actually in 4/4 time.

Spent a day or two messing around with 7/4 beats a while back ago:
klare's warmup
