Stepmania Nostalgia Pack (Submissions OPEN)
Stepmania Nostalgia Pack
(Temporary banner if anyone wants to make a better one) Remember 2004-2006? When Stepmania had simple files like Eggman's Quasar, Hayden's Ageha, or even Toph's One More Lovely? This era of stepping was the best in most of the community's opinion and it seems like the right time for that to revive. The song choice doesn't have to be strict, just find something and step away. Also synchronizing doesn't have to be perfect at all, just make it seem close enough. Files/Patterns that are allowed: Index (Friendly patterns, meaning no cross-overs, jumpstream, hands, etc) Old-School (Making the file have the fun factor rather than having it be technically correct) Jumpstream (Self-explanatory) Handstream (Keeping this to a low minimum, e.g. Moulin Rouge [Edit], Policy In The Sky [Oni]) Minijacks (This is very best a minimum when including jacks, 2 or 3 notes long is good) DO NOT SEND stepfiles that are/have: New-Generation Stepfiles (2007-2011, e.g. Dark Chancellors, ODIPack 1-2) Mine Dumps (Files having a cluster of mines to dodge) Vibrating (please no) Rolls (Don't have this in your stepfile, some people use SM 3.9 and rolls aren't supported for this version) Send all submissions to: stepmanianostalgia@gmail.com (You can also PM your files to me (AlexDest) on FFR and I will send them to the other judges) Aiming somewhere between 30-40 files until further notice. Key: * = File has been judged by all judges. ** = Accepted, has been judged by all judges. *** = Accepted, has been judged by all judges, and has graphics. File Submissions: 29 Background Theme II (TNSM) Broadbaned (Kommisar) Dash (Sensationer) Ending (Kommisar + WTFBrandon) Enemy Storm (HawkE) FFReedom (MarioNintendo) Final Audition Episode 1 (Aeterna Imari) Form The Alliance (Xayphon) HOT STUFF (IcyWorld) I Love Rock & Roll (Sensationer) Less Than Three (Kommisar) Less Than Three (plopadop) Love Is Dreaminess (IcyWorld) Macau Underground (Kommisar) MAHOROBA (Aeterna Imari vs. TypeMARS) Master Maid (Kommisar) Neckbreaker Plus System Remix (Aeterna Imari) Only My Railgun Full -Eurobeatchargemix- (Sensationer) Papaver Rhoeas (Kommisar) Piano Mania VS Drum no Tatsuj (BeatofIke) Pump Me Amadeus (Aeterna Imari) Reunion (HawkE) Super Lovely (Dimentio) Target Smash (BeatofIke) Tinkerbot Battle (Duplica) Uzzuda (Sensationer) Wi-Ex-Doc-Va (Kommisar) Xecus (BeatofIke) Xepher (Aeterna Imari) Accepted Files: 0 Judges: AlexDest (View my notes) Rebound (View his notes) Need another judge Graphic Artists: Rebound Kraezymann You can also find the pack here: http://www.stepmania.com/forums/show...ssions-Open%29

Re: Stepmania Nostalgia Pack (Submissions OPEN)
Broadbaned (Kommisar) - Simple and fast paced jumpstream, very old school and replayable. Accept
Enemy Storm (HawkE) - Awesome NVLM-esque file whoa, heavy was really good and replayable, oni was a great increase of difficulty and replayable as well. Accept FFReedom (MarioNintendo) - I don't know, feels fun in some places, others weren't. This could really be a nice index file if you fix up the patterns. Rejected Final Audition Episode 1 (Aeterna Imari) - Perfect song for this pack. But eh, might be better if it was more indexable, I recommend to fix the patterns. Maybe HOT STUFF (IcyWorld) - Nice and simple index file, nothing else to say. Accept Less Than Three (Kommisar) - Great and fun handstreaming file, as well old school. Keep it up. Accept Love Is Dreaminess (IcyWorld) - Since you said you intended this file to be index... m14-16: What's the point of those 32nds being there, just make them 8ths. m24.50 and m25: The jumps are fine if you remove the 16ths there, not really a big deal, but would make it easier on the player. m30 and m32: Jumps are in the stream. m49.75: As mentioned before the jumps are fine there, just remove the 16th note right before those jumps. m66: I guess starting a jump to the stream is fine, for a better way to start it, use (14)1 instead of (14)3 m73.75: 32nd rolls are just too hard for index, just continue stepping 16ths. m81.75: Again 32nd rolls. m89: Just remove that last 16th before the jump. Fix these and it's good. Rejected Macau Underground (Kommisar) - Again more old school from Kommisar, very nice file to replay. Accept MASTER MAID (Kommisar) - Really long, very challenging file to play to say the least, pretty fun. Accept MAHOROBA (Aeterna Imari vs. TypeMARS) - Neckbreaker Plus System Remix (Aeterna Imari) - Papaver Rhoeas (Kommisar) - And again more DJ Sharpnel. This one is cool, more simple patterns with an old school feel. Accept Pump Me Amadeus (Aeterna Imari) - Reunion (HawkE) - Sure I guess this is fun for a handstream file, would play again. Accept Super Lovely (Dimentio) - Nice little jumpstream file, fun to play. Accept Tinkerbot Battle (Duplica) - Pack needs some fast streamy index files, this one was fun to play, old school a bit as well. Accept Wi-Ex-Doc-Va (Kommisar) - Simple jumpstream file yet again, fun to play and replayable. Accept Xepher (Aeterna Imari) - ~Ending 2~ (Kommisar vs. WTFBrandon) -

Re: Stepmania Nostalgia Pack (Submissions OPEN)
Rebound Reviews
Broadbaned (8M Remix) [Kommisar] (Accept) Haha, this file was pretty fun and replayable. This definitely is bring back that old school feel to files which is what we are looking for! (Accept) Ememy Storm [Hawke] (Accept) Heavy - Oh man, this chart was just hella fun and HIGHLY replayable. Oni - WOW, this chart was like the PERFECT difficultly gap for heavy. FFReedom [MarioNintendo] (Maybe) This file was more on the repetitive side due to the dragging on of the song but it was still fun to some extent. Holds felt a bit abused as well and the song itself had a low volume so it gave it that ~feel~ that it was more boring than it really is. Final Audition Episode 1 [Aeterna Imari] - (Don't have ATM) HOT STUFF [IcyWorld] - (Don't have ATM) Less Than Three [Kommisar] (Accept) Less-than-three! You love me! Typing out my random thoughts! Meet me here on this thread! L-O-L-O-L! Less Than Three [plopadop] (Accept) This chart was pretty good as well. I think it would be a great idea if this chart was the heavy version of Kommisar's version. Love Is Dreaminess [IcyWorld] - (Don't have ATM) Macau Underground [Kommisar] (Accept) Oh shi, bringing back that DJ Sharpnel back is dis bitch. Fuccen amazing chart btw. MASTER MAID [Kommisar] (Accept) Again, bring back that DJ Sharpnel into this pack is awesome. This looks similar to the FFR version but longer. Still thought it was fun as an old school file. That slightly repetitive feel brought be back to 2005 hehu. MAHOROBA [Aeterna Imari vs. TypeMARS] - (Don't have ATM) Neckbreaker Plus System Remix [Aeterna Imari] - (Don't have ATM) Papaver Rhoeas [Kommisar] (Accept) And yet ANOTHER DJ sharpnel file lmao. Still found it really fun and replayable though hehe. Pump Me Amadeus [Aeterna Imari] - (Don't have ATM) Reunion [Hawke] (Accept) Wow, another old school ~feel~ JS file. Definitely something i would want to play again. Super Lovely [Kommisar] (Accept) I almost quad this! Jokes aside, another great JS file that i think a lot of people would enjoy. Tinkerbot Boss Battle [Duplica] (Accept) Cool stream file. Seemed a bit like a unique old school file in a way which is something we want. Uzzuda [Sensationer] Medium - Heavy - Oni - Wi-Ex-Doc-Va [Kommisar] - Xepher [Aeterna Imari] - (Don't have ATM) ~Ending 2~ [Kommisar vs. WTFBrandon] -

Re: Stepmania Nostalgia Pack (Submissions OPEN)
Enemy Storm (HawkE)
Both charts: This plays out like an easier NVLM dump. I have no issue with files like this being considered old school, but do we really want to have a nostalgia pack have these kinds of files so soon? Undecided. Reunion (HawkE) The triples in the 8th notes is a bit of a turn off. Otherwise, this is alright. Stream patterns look super old-school with all of that zig-zagging. Light accept. Dash (Sensationer) Offset is considerably incorrect. File seems really random and a lot of triples are used in combination with running streams, a bad combination for older files. File is way over-stepped. Reject. I Love Rock and Roll (Sensationer) Medium: Awesome concept up until 40 seconds, where the triples came in really heavily. Plays fairly alright until 2:20ish, until more triples start being spammed again. The constant abuse of triples is NOT something that files from this time had. I really enjoyed certain parts of the file though, the lack of care for layering with proper rhythmic syncopation is really nice. Revisions needed. Heavy/Oni: WAY overstepped. This isn't a dump pack. Having a slightly over-layered file is fine if it's in moderation, but this is just ridiculous. Not every file in this pack is going to be an NVLM-esque style file and I'll make sure of it. Reject. Only My Railgun (Sensationer) Both charts: again, it just doesn't give off an old school feel -- you had a nice start to both charts, but when the song intensified, your chart added triples perfectly on cue. It's incredibly rough to play for a large majority of the chart. Reject. Uzzuda (Sensationer) Medium: This chart would probably work really well without any triples whatsoever. However, this chart isn't too over-bearing with the triple usage until around 2:40ish, and it IS fairly slow. I'm reluctant to let it pass, but I'll give it a thought before determining what to do. Undecided. Heavy/Oni: yet again, charts are too much and play like dump files. No real care for pattern choice or anything of the sort. Reject. Broadbaned (Kommisar) Extremely aggressive chart. Plays like a more aggressive version of One More Lovely. While it pays some attention to details in the synthesized melodies, it still plays very nicely as an older file. A few triples after some fast runs, but a small number won't hurt. Accept. Ending (Kommisar + WTFBrandon) Such a great song to give a legacy style to! Absolutely no complaints. Accept. FFReedom (MarioNintendo) Nothing erroneous about the file, but it seems a little draggy. Light accept. Last edited by TC_Halogen; 05-11-2011 at 10:52 AM.. |

Re: Stepmania Nostalgia Pack (Submissions OPEN)
Solo wasn't really played seriously before 2006 iirc, but I'll have to think about this later on, seems like a good idea.

Re: Stepmania Nostalgia Pack (Submissions OPEN)
IMO I think that should be fine, just make sure that it doesn't get to the point where it gets too boring. Keep the files as fun as possible and be sure to look at the OP so you can get more of an idea what we are looking for in your files.
EDIT: Random but my 4,400th post! (Not like i care or anything though lmao)

Re: Stepmania Nostalgia Pack (Submissions OPEN)
I fixed up a song of mine I made in 2008 when I joined FFR. Ironically enough, it's called "FFReedom", lol... I was 15 at the time, and almost as dumb as Mans0n. Who knows, this song might be played someday!? :O
