In the making of my first stepmania chart
I don't know if that is what you would call it but I have been wanting to get into making charts for this game for like 6 months but didn't know where to start. Earlier today, I was browsing the forums (like I usually do) and I found an old thread that taught you how to make charts. So I downloaded the stuff to do so and I started to make one to one of my favorite songs currently. I don't know if it is good or not or anything. It is also not even close to done. It is only like 1/6 of the way done. But I don't want to make an entire chart and then find out it's terrible. So I came here and wanted to know if it is good so far since this is how I intend to chart the rest of the song. Is there anything that I can do that will improve it?

Re: In the making of my first stepmania chart
Someone in Discord said it was overcharted, and I agree. I think the hands, quads, and some of the jumps are just too much for the sound that it's representing. There's inconsistency on the vocals - is it supposed to be single or jumps? It also helps if you posted a download link for your file (maybe in this thread or at "ffr-simfiles" in Discord) so that it can be analyzed in ArrowVortex/DDReam.

Re: In the making of my first stepmania chart
That looks like something I'd enjoy tbh, but for the sake of everyone else try to keep the difficulty balanced. (The longjack, while fun, would be far better as a 1 handed trill)

Re: In the making of my first stepmania chart
From the current dropbox version:
-Offset is around 55ms late and the 12ths don't make sense with correct offset; -Try to be more deliberate with what you assign single notes vs jumps, hands or quads to. Right at the beginning you use all 4 options to small modulations of the vocals which leaves you with little room to represent anything else in the song in a manner that makes sense to the player. An easy way to start is using single notes for the main melody & other 'streamy' sounds, and then flavoring with jumps/hands/quads according to other instruments. -It'll be much easier to learn how to gauge difficulty and intensity if you step something you can actually playtest (I'm assuming the long jack and the left hand biased part starting at 28s are too hard for a D3 player). |

Re: In the making of my first stepmania chart
-the offset needs a bit of tweaking(i used 1.071 cause i like having the first beat on the first note of the song)
-the long jacks would work better as a one handed trill or a roll -after the long jack most of the patterns were on the left hand so try and spread the notes more evenly on the rest of the song I'm new to the charting scene too o/

The first keyboard chart I ever made I submitted to the upcoming official tourney lel.
First pad chart tho oh boy I don't remember which one exactly what it was but I'm sure it was pure trash.

Re: In the making of my first stepmania chart
this would be an interesting idea for a pack. all submissions must be the first chart you made (or the earliest one atleast) we could point to it to show that everyone started out bad at charting, and point to what went wrong in a lot of the charts so that we can use it as a learning tool for new stepartists. If we really wanted people to actually play it, everything could also be recharted.

Re: In the making of my first stepmania chart
Got my first file here if the pack becomes a reality. Also, maybe there should be a .txt in the pack folder, or a Google Doc that mentions what everyone's mistakes were in each person's file.
