Re: A new genre?
dag12 told me sometime before that it was impossible to add new genres... and that when Skill, Token, and Dance2 were added, some old genres were taken out. This is a flat out lie, isn't it? He also told me that you couldn't add any more purchased songs for a related reason.

Re: A new genre?
Actually, when I joined there were only 9 genres: Dance, Hip-Hop, Funk, Arcade, Rock, Classical, Misc, Secret, and Purchased. If it's possible to add genre slots to the wheel, I see no reason they can't be taken out as well.
But yes, to Midday's question, no genre slots were removed. Token is #10, Dance2 is #11, and Skill Tokens is #12, I believe. |

Re: A new genre?
Yeah, there were never any genre's taken out of this game. There definitely were three put in as igotrhythm said.
If there was a limit of the number of genres (I don't think there is), then I could possibly see Funk and Hip-Hop getting dumped into Misc, but that would be probably the greatest extent of any consolidation. |

Foilman: I think the person who tried to report you found your avatar to be in bad taste or something along those lines. Someone's death is never funny, and putting it in the context of a G/S/C battle is just wrong to both the memory of the deceased and to the Pokemon franchise's wholesome image in general.

Re: A new genre?
This discussion has nothing to do with my avatar. If you are implying that it was you who reported me for such a ludicrous reason, then PM me and talk to me about it.
And if you're being sarcastic, then well ****ing done. You have me fooled into thinking you're serious or something. |

Back on topic, I guess... derailed: I'm quite confused about how the current genres are sorted out... What is the significant difference between Dance and Misc? Dance2 has Epidermis and None Would Escape, while Misc has Frictional Nevada and Choprite... @_@

Re: A new genre?
I think what happened is that Dance got too big, so a sort of mitosis happened and Dance2 is where all the more difficult Dance songs went.

I'm asking about the difference between Dance/Dance2 and Misc. Also, I already said this before, but Touhou music should all be in Arcade. XD

Re: A new genre?
But he's asking about those specific songs. They're all in the same style of music but put into 2 different genres. Also, when the new genres were added, they got put out of order and have never been fixed...

Re: A new genre?
the genre system is completely flawed in terms of organizing song placement... but when the game first came out (1st style), there were only 4 initial dance songs. then a few hip-hip, funk, and rock songs were added. then a few arcade songs. then a few classical songs. and then a few more dance songs. and that was 1st style... about 25 songs total, with dance, hip-hop, funk, rock, arcade, classic, and dance2.
then 2nd style came around and we expanded initially to about 60 songs, and added misc, secret, and purchased. that was 2004. over the next 2 years, the song list expanded to about 110 songs. everything was contained fine, nothing was over 3 pages, etc etc. Then I took over adding songs... and now there are over 600 levels in the FFR, things are over crowded, we have way way way more genres of songs... it becomes a nightmare to perfectly place every song... and we do the best we can until we can release 3rd style, which will address the song placement and sorting issues, to make sure we can reasonably hold thousands of songs in the game.

Re: A new genre?
Doesn't matter much to me... I know where all the songs are by heart. I was just curious.
Haha, I learned something about early FFR. XD Looks like ap19 wasn't here for 1st style, but he was here for the VERY beginning of 2nd.

Re: A new genre?
You are disturbed. @_@ Haha, I still got what you meant.
I don't mind if there are 100 pages in Dance2... I'll still remember where the songs are. The ones I play anyway.

Re: A new genre?
So yeah...I think we're about done with this. Too bad nobody ever actually got an explanation for what "play songs" were as a genre.

Re: A new genre?
the OP mentioned what he meant... by play songs, he meant songs from musicals. show tunes. which would be fine with me... i greatly enjoy show tunes. but it doesn't really fit our demographic. nor would we have an easy time getting permission (except for Damn Yankees and Pajama Game... my cousin wrote the music to them).
besides, other larger, more popular "Genres" didn't get their own genre, something like this wouldn't either.

Re: A new genre?
There's nothing necessairly wrong with them, but we'd need to fill up a good page and a half of misc before we could justify splitting it off, and as someone who has done musicals in the past, the rights to use music from actually popular musicals are ridiculously expensive, even when you're like, a school looking to just break even on it.
