I think it'll come back to life once it gets finished up, and the tokens are implemented, and it's finally posted on the front page and stickied.

More likely: most people aren't patient enough to spend several hours trying to think of new ways to interpret a clue until they hit on the right one, and don't have friends who they want to work through the puzzles with.

Well, that's essentially what I'm getting at. I didn't mean that they can't do it (I probably should edit my post because it makes me sound like a prick), it's more so because they're struggling and don't have anyone to turn to for help. Others just don't want to go through the entire game because it's incredibly tedious.

IMO a good riddle site needs to really ease up on the difficulty gradients. You have to make the first 10-20 levels piss-easy and full of handholding. Only then should you start to deviate a bit from the rails.

When I was working on the concept of a puzzle game on DF - the initial tutorial was up to the 9th level of the game. I never went out of my way to make the images or anything, but since it's the "trendy" thing to do, I might go about it.

Then again, I'll probably get shot down because I will either be too obscure, or too uncreative. The only way to get better is to try, though!

The other problem with riddle sites is that when you get stuck, you get stuck. If a player can't figure it out in a sufficient time frame, they'll enter CBFmode and never come back to play again.

The alternative is to invoke something that I plan on doing if I ever get around to making a riddle site of my own.

Like me; I'm sitting at -25, and I'm very sure that I know how to do it, but the amount of effort to physically solve it is way too much for me to handle.

The inevitable truth is dropout can't be prevented, but nullifying it can be done through a few ways, like alternative levels coming through multiple possibilities from a single level. Different paths to the ending would take a little bit more effort because you'd need to add a few extra levels, but introducing multiple levels of thinking through two different puzzles on the same level could help get people through because of different interpretation.

AJ -25 is surprisingly easy and doesn't take nearly as long as what you are assuming x:

Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about this. Now that I'm back on campus, I can do things, so yeah, expect -18 soon. I'm also starting to think of ideas for NotFFRon II, which will hopefully be more organized and more fair.
