Yo coolgamer
If you want another opinion, send me the files (any messenger works) and I'll tell you if I'd have rejected them or not.

patashu (and kommi): now that you're a judge... you shouldn't be taking files in and helping with pre-judging. i don't know how much of that blu and jx do leading up to a batch... but, really, to be unbiased you shouldn't be doing much of it at all.

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
it's not a prejudging thing since I would be testing something sent in last batch, though :P

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
I know you're just being snide but he wouldn't have submitted it to the next batch anyway
edit: I'm going ahead and making a hard version of intense colors btw, it'll be 8-9ish employed ancient kil technique of putting all snare hits on the right arrow to distinguish them from notes to the melody in this annoying part where it plays melodies like .xxx.xxxx.xx.xxx.xxx.xxxx.xx.xxx and skips most of the red beats

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
I like to put snare hits on the right as well, but I didn't know doing so was known as a technique of Kil's.

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
I'm thinking in particular of kil's shudder, feldschlacht and I think badlands which have straight runs with snare hits on the right so they can be emphasized without making it jumpstream
only I'm doing it because it doesn't make jumpstream

I definitely became better when blu and I exchanged our files before every batch because I got a second opinion (one that counts) and also got to discuss simfile theeriez.

This BS has been happening to me recently for some odd reason. So I zip my file into a zip file but when you play it, its another file for some reason and its not the right file (you basically witnessed it). Today Ive tried to remedy this situation and for some reason one time, the file turned into 60bpm. But it never is the right file. However, in my original catagory like for instance Operationstrawbarry Sim's, when you play it, its the right file. This predicament is hard to explain and is extremely frustrating escpecially with vista which it refuses you to put it into a folder and in order to do so, you must copy and paste it into the folder using my documents. So its like 3 extra BS steps. ANyone have any suggestions? The only thing that I know is that I would have to redo the entire file using the original and mirror it onto dwi (perferrably from one of the packs since its obveious that it works). Sometimes that doesn't work either. Last edited by operationstrawbarry; 01-10-2009 at 07:23 AM.. |

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
If you're using Vista, you'd be wise not to put your Stepmania folder into program files because Vista does not allow changes to be written (at least, by the user) to anything within Program Files. If you feel you are making changes and they are disappearing before you, then this may be exactly the case.
I suggest moving Stepmania out of Program Files completely. Although this should only be an issue if you don't have admin privileges, I'd try it and see if it solves anything. |

If you have admin then you should be able to do whatever, it just takes an additional "are you sure you want to do this" step.

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
For most things, but if I remember correctly, the folder virtualization happens with no warning whatsoever. What happens is Vista actually creates another folder somewhere and stores any changes made to files within Program Files there. But since the programs aren't reading from that directory, it's a pretty big waste of time.
Anyway, hate to derail this and turn it into a Vista thread; I hope you can get it sorted out Strawbarry. |

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
Yeah I fail to see how testing while you are a judge makes you biased, unless you can't separate what one file is from another and see the first file as what the file should be, in which case you will have trouble being unbiased at all.
I mean, I prejudged spitfire's rock^3 file and even made the cut but that didn't stop me from finding more mistakes and end up telling him collab. Also, since the batch process takes so long it ends up taking half a year for a file that needs 2-3 iterations to get into the queue, which is plain retarded. It wouldn't be such an issue if the file testing thread ever got like 2-3 people that would really test files. Also, sending a file that doesn't have any jumps yay.

btw... I dont think you need to worry about the biasness of the judges considering on how strict the judgeing is. I dont think anyone really knows enough about each other to really play favorits. |

The problem is I sent all my files to three respected members of the simfile community beforehand, and most were found to be acceptable.
I just feel increasingly frustrated at my attempts to get good independent music in the game. (Although I will admit, the Die Barney Die one I sent sucked ass. I failed to run my normal quality control on it.) |

Hey kommi did you ever step that Dr. Steel song, speaking of Coolgamer's permissions. : p
Coolgamer, since I'm not judging anymore will gladly help you with your file, granted I enjoy the song, as I can make that choice now... Just PM me a sendspace link or something.
