Re: Megaupload is gone....
So..... is all file hosting illegal now? How about file transfers through IM clients? Ripping CDs and putting the files on a flash drive? Where's the line?
Is it because it could have been used for infringement or because it was used? Also, why are the site owners responsible instead of the users?

Re: Megaupload is gone....
lmao at everyone flipping out over fake anon videos saying SOPA has passed. The debate doesn't even resume til February lol.
What is hilarious imo is the fact that everyone is like "they just want to get re-elected". Who the hell is going to vote for them if they shut down half the internet lol

Re: Megaupload is gone....
People are angry about the general approach of media companies to preserve their source of revenue, an approach that hurts more than just the sector of media piracy. The megaupload issue is just one example. SOPA is not directly related to the megaupload issue but this shutdown obviously highlights the battle of media content, the general topic related to SOPA. So that's why people are cursing SOPA as well in this thread. They have every right to do so.
Curse the media giants like Universal, and curse the government as well. There we go. Both are covered. edit: for those people who are accusing the mentality of senile old farts, that's probably a minor reason at most. It's the media companies that everyone needs to stomp their feet on. Last edited by bmah; 01-20-2012 at 01:02 AM.. |

Re: Megaupload is gone....
BAM. Right there.
Megaupload had perfectly legal uses. People did use it to host illegal content. Megaupload complied with DMCA notices and removed files found to be infringing or otherwise illegal. They also terminated repeat violators of their terms of service. But MegaUpload was shut down anyway. Not only that, but some of their key people are looking at FIFTY YEARS IN PRISON. MegaUpload and their staff were not in violation of the DMCA. SOPA and PIPA have not passed yet so they do not apply. But I guess the government wants to jump the gun and have their little ****ing power trip a little bit early. They're like little kids that can't wait until after dinner to eat their dessert.
