Newbie at FFR-stepfile-making-process here... but how do we get a music file if an author doesn't have it up for download from their site?

Buy the music or find it on the Simfile database

Edit: if a person we have permission for does something like, in the case of Funtastic Times (Keaton), Eminim v.s Cranky mashup, we have permission for that, right?

I'm pretty sure the Basshunter permission is limited to the songs in the widget. I'll e-mail them to check.

Kyle Ward is a blanket permission, including everything on his label SCI Recordings.

Well, I know ESM didn't step all of them, but I know that a good majority of Kyle's songs are already in the game.

ps Just checked the list, happy we have powerglove permission. I'll get the FF7 Battle theme back in the game!

I think it's more because you said it was for "a simfile pack", which would imply Stepmania. Stepmania doesn't have any copyright restrictions, you can go step whatever you want for a pack.

F and Katharsis are by bubbles, which is Cranky and Pico.

depends on multiple factors:

a) what label are they on, and what contacts do we already have with that label?
b) is the band currently looking for new promotion ideas. aka, are they about to go on tour or are they about to release a CD?

those are the 2 main points. there are others as well though. it's very very different than dealing with an indie band.
