Certainly, I would feel more bad for someone who never even had the opportunity to take off in life. The reason though why the death of a celebrity is a big deal is because of what they contributed to society. For MJ, it was changing people's perception of music. People liked his music a lot so that's why it's a notable loss. Of course, the death of a random person off the street is, while less noticed, just as sad because that person never had the chance to shine.

A lot of star and good artist are "random person off the street"
ex: Jim Carrey

This is really sad. I wouldn't say it's as tragic as Elvis's death, but it's close. My bass teacher taught me the basslines to Beat It, Billy Jean and a few other songs in honor of him.

By "random person off the street", I'm talking about people in poverty and such. Not a random unknown person suddenly made famous, but people who never had much of a chance to get off the streets in the first place.

That is, unless Madonna adopts you.

iluswirl, the reason why Michael Jackson's death is more important than other peoples' deaths is because he was extremely talented, did something with that talent, impacted the world of music, was a great humanitarian, donated millions of dollars to charity, influenced other artists across the entire world, and became an extremely important figure in the lives of those who loved his music. Don't try to compare someone like that to just some random person who dies on the street. They could be a murderer, for all you know.

well you could at least TRY to have some sort of a heart by showing a little sympathy.

If you don't care, don't post. Quit contradicting others feelings.

But you can't count out the fact, and by saying this I mean NO disrespect, but there were publicity rumors that he was a child rapist. That person could have been somebody's parent. Everybody has something in them, it's just how they choose to use it. Look at autistic people. They are absolutely AMAZING at some things, but some of them can't figure out what 3*3 is. You can say that he was a humanitarian and donated, but not all of us become superstars because our special abilities are not like his, singing and such. People are people. I don't like the middle school mentality where there are the "popular kids" and the "losers". It's just not humane, even leading some kids to death. One person should never be put above another.
