Re: beating a dead horse
I'm not trying to be obnoxious or rude. But to be honest what happens every time I bring this up is that I mention it and some people acknowledge it, and nobody does anything. I realize that staff don't have access to it. And I also realize that staff (particularly the dev team) has more important things to attend to. But I've been bringing this up intermittently for TWO YEARS come March...
I would like to help with the page. But if I can't because I've been "obnoxious" per se about getting it revived, then so be it. I'd rather see the page active again in general whether I'm on it or not. I've heard a number of people say they were looking into it or "talking with people" about it over the course of the last year or so, and the typical response otherwise is "I don't have access to it rip". I know you guys don't have access to it, I just wish someone would actually look at this as something worth getting access to again and making use of other than me. It's somewhat frustrating. If I get a promise from staff that they will take this somewhat seriously and hunt down the page (and maybe talk to Jae themselves about getting it back?) then you can lock this thread and you have my word I won't bring it up again.

Re: beating a dead horse
I agree. Someone seriously needs to contact Nois and get this done already. It's been too damn long.

Re: beating a dead horse
1) most of the likes on that page are somewhat old and those people probably wouldn't notice that the new page needed to be liked
2) the new page would have to be swapped out for the current one in the FFR site source, and we'd need the admins to take care of that I guess it's another solution but it seems a little unnecessary considering SOMEONE still has access to the other page. Plus I'm not going to start an "official FFR page" without backing from FFR considering the last time I tried to run a photo hunt without staff backing I was put in timeout

Right the edits with the zzzz and such isn't being obnoxious.
Hey Justin what happened to the photo hunt you told me you'd run when I was still event manager? You just disappeared on me for that one.

Re: beating a dead horse
If you're trying to make a point, ...alright
if not: I moved to Alaska. My two jobs took priority and then I started into school. While I had been offered help on it, there was a lack of communication on my part (ask Prawnskunk/foxfire667, I was trying to coordinate with them even at one point) and I couldn't find the motivation and time to gather enough things to make it a good photo hunt. The conversations concerning what was going to happen with it were a little disheartening to me for a few reasons, and I lost a lot of drive to make it happen. I'd fetch said conversations but they were over Skype and I can't get them now. My comment in regards to the being put in timeout on the photo hunt wasn't any type of attack on anyone or how the staff handled the situation, it wasn't wrong as to what happened. Was merely stating that I've learned my lesson to not associate something I do with FFR as any sort of "official" or "important" thing anymore unless I've got some staff on board.

Re: beating a dead horse
I'm all for getting a point across, but the opening post of this thread certainly wasn't the right way to do it. Given the context of this thread, you were aware of the fact that it was inaccessible given that nois-or-e was your point of contact, when other staff was simply messaged for acknowledgment. Staff not giving you a straight answer is a bad thing, but it is a lot easier for you to talk to the person responsible for the situation and push your way through rather than being a nuisance about something to others who might not be able to resolve your situation. Direct communication is an important thing.
I can't speak for everyone on staff, but I know that there are a number of staff members you could have talked to that would have actually brought it up to somewhere it needed to be (or would have reiterated the same point if you brought it to attention with no response). It's really not hard to respond to a user's questions. If nois-or-e has access to the page, he needs to be pestered about it. There's nothing else to it. He might have rescinded his position on FFR, but there are still obviously a few unresolved things from when he was staff. If he can't get back to you about it, then the page can be remade with people that will actually staff it consistently; a front page notification post can/should be thrown together so that the active forum users and casual users alike can go and give it attention. Anything in regards to social media and this site should be somewhere within clear sight. |

On the other hand, I did intentionally make this a public thread and not a private message. I have privately talked to Sprite-, Velocity, Zageron, Sky Kitten, Bmah, and nois-or-e all about this page and have been told on numerous occasions either 1) I don't have access to it, go ask someone else or 2) I'll bring it up and see what we can do. But this was over the course of the last year that I've been pushing this, and nothing has come of it. I don't have anything against our staff but to me the only way that seems like it will get enough attention to be focused on is if I make it something blatantly obvious and push it in public.. Quote:

Re: beating a dead horse
I sent him a message and will follow up with this, as the Facebook medium would actually be a good way to push out all sorts of information to increase activity from social media.
This page won't be left to just rot for no reason. Something's gotta give. |

Re: beating a dead horse
I agree. I'll drop this topic now. Whether we get the page back or not you guys drain me of my will to fight these things lol

Re: beating a dead horse
There is a lot of lost potential on FFR, and I feel like social media is a way that could generate activity if it's pushed out frequently and shared by the players.

Re: beating a dead horse
I've watched a few digital artists and small 'companies' grow through facebook and media marketing, and I know what it could do for the popularity of FFR. That facebook page has way more potential than anyone could get out of it, if ran correctly and used to promote FFR.
There's a happy balance between posting updates and posting hype. There needs to be an aspect that will get people interested as well as keep people interested, and a Facebook page is easily capable of both. I'd argue the twitter could be better used as well, since it only tweets out changelog details at the moment as well. Perhaps someone could be added onto that as well to tweet about things upcoming with the site, new releases, didyouknow sort of facts.... I've got a lot of ideas for these sorts of things but it really takes someone that is going to take advantage of them to make it worthwhile. This is why a lot of groups will have people assigned to the role specifically. It's all entertainment in the long run, and to tell you the truth FFR is not entertaining to anyone outside of the local community, unless we get people hooked somehow. (and then I could dive into the smaller FFR-on-Facebook Engine idea, etc, but that's another story altogether) edit: lol @popsicle, you crack me up sometimes dude

Re: beating a dead horse
Why did only one person have access to the FFR page in the first place? Makes no sense to me.

Re: beating a dead horse
It was multiple originally. But over time people got added and removed, etc. I doubt it ended with just Jae, but it seems like it's probably aperson/Sprite-, Synthlight, and Jae with access or something like that (and good luck getting ahold of them...)

Re: beating a dead horse
I can be an annoying, nagging piece of shit if I need to be. I'll get the control of this page back so that we can use it again. Hopefully, we'll get it back as planned. If not, the broken record will begin to perpetually loop and I'll do things the hard way. :V
