Final Fantasy 7 Battle Theme
Is there any way that we could get this song back on here and play it? I mean, the version that was previously on this game and playable was the version directly from the video game.
But could we get a midi version of the song, or a remixed version of the song and then make that a stepfile? Would that break any copyright laws? If it wouldn't, that's something I think should be created because so many people enjoyed playing that one stepfile. |

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Battle Theme
No can do, unless an Admin can get permission from Square to bring it back into game, publicly

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Battle Theme
How would we go about requesting an Administrator to contact Square to try and get permission?

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Battle Theme
The closest you could get that we could probably use would be an american-made remix of the song, because they are pretty much the only ones with legitimate fair use laws on copyright infringement.
You would of course, need permission from the artist responsible for the remix. Square is not going to give permission, so you can drop that line of inquiry. Squre Enix is far too large a company to tell a website with over a million users "Oh yeah sure, use our highly popular and recognizable property for free" Again, an american-made remix, or take the time to see if there's a Black Mages version around and fire off an e-mail to Nobuo Uematsu and ask to use that one. |

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Battle Theme
Okay, next question would be that I saw somebody say that we can download the songs used in stepfiles.
I have NO idea how to go about it, but a pointer would be nice if it's possible to do what I'm asking. |

-We- have permission to use those songs, you don't. You'd be pirating copywritten property. Also, permission from the Black Mages does exist, on the condition that you don't cut any of the songs in any way. YOu have to use the whole song as it exists. Thank you for all of the information and advice. I'll keep all of this in mind. So, we have the permission from Black Mages, is it in progress getting the song/stepfile up and going? Last edited by devonin; 05-12-2009 at 12:04 PM.. |

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Battle Theme
Also, I can play the Final Fantasy 7 Battle Theme song on the piano, so if I recorded my rendition of the song and allowed this site to use it then it's not considered copyright infringement, correct?
Because I'm not using Nobuo Uematsu's original work. I based my rendition of it off of his song. I'm just speculating here, nothing more than asking questions. |

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Battle Theme
I geuss I was correct on the fact that we had permission for OWA. devonin, couldn't serinostrife download a file from the SMDB, and just take the Mp3 and delete the rest? Or does that still fall under the copyright?

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Battle Theme
He was talking about using music from the game.
The simfile database is so incredibly full of copyright infringement already that realistically we should have deleted the whole thing ages ago, but since it exists, you can download what's in the simfile DB all you like. Mind you, any duplications of songs in FFR in the database are in violation of the database rules too. |
