What defines MP level rank?

In MP, what defines your rank? It seems that it goes by level because the highest levels are at 1 and 2, then #40-50 or so are all 20. My ratio is higher than some of these level 20's, and I am a level 20 as well, but my rank is 183. Can someone help explain why this is?

It's probably ranked by how close you are to the next level. Not 100% sure on that though.

Based on % of what level you are.

Your MP level changes based on the comparative levels of you and the people you play.

If you beat someone of much higher rank than yourself, your rank will increase -more- than if you beat someone of a similar or lower rank.

You could be 500-0 at multiplayer but if you only play level 1s, I really doubt you'd be anywhere -near- the top 50 for mp level.

It isn't just about winning a lot, it is about winning a lot against people ranked as better than you.

Put simply: It isn't the quantity of wins that matters, it is quality

Because, usually, a short and sweet answer will suffice in most situations
