AAA/FC Tips?
Hello all!
I've been playing FFR for a little while (had an account before this one, realistically, I've been playing since 2005), and I'm trying to get myself up to the level of being able to actually FC and AAA decently challenging songs. I was wondering if anyone here has any tips or tricks or things to work on to work myself up to this level? Also, for any of you FFR-Pros-- What key config do you use? Traditionally, I've been using the directional keys, but I hear ASKL every now and then. |

Play spread. I use: SD JK
Also, increase your speed mod. I currently play on 2.1x, but don't jump to a speed mod at first, gradually work your way up. You'll notice that your PA will increase the more your practice.

Re: AAA/FC Tips?
I use one of the strangest keysetups. ZX86 here.
As for tips: This might be too cliche of a statement but practice makes perfect. Play at a comfortable speed mod as well. Lastly, don't get anxiety attacks like me, because that will prevent you from AAAing songs. Try to not care when you attempt to do it. |

also, another thing to do is to practice on harder songs. It makes it much easier to do well on easier songs.

Re: AAA/FC Tips?
Spread, high speed mod for AAAs (i use a low one actually, running with 1.5 or 1.25 most of the time), spread, practice, spread, oh and use a spread set up. I like xc;,. as mine, but mess around with it and use one that feels good to your hands and doesn't wear your wrists down.

Re: AAA/FC Tips?
Disagree.
Anyways take the highest difficulty you can fc and go to the ingame song information thread. then find the "hardest" song the next difficulty up and whore it. Generally speaking you should slowly improve. I also recommend playing every file in the game at least once. It'll expose you to literally everything. Learning how to one hand up to level 5 songs on each hand also helped a bit for me. |

T_T Back on topic, just play songs out of your level. Like, if you can FC 8s, play 10s. Try and play one or two levels above what you can actually play and you'll see that when you drop back down to lower difficulties, your accuracy will be so much greater. |

Re: AAA/FC Tips?
1.75 seems to be the best speed for accuracy. Speedmods higher than that can give a greater chance of hitting all over the place.

Re: AAA/FC Tips?
Move your fingers really fast
Edit: but in all seriousness, SM makes a real difference. I don't think ill get into any real detail but (and I hate to say this) to be good at this game you have to have no life, or at least for a little while till you get good and then you can be a little more laid back. playing this game is like riding a bike, once you learn how to do it, you'll naturally be able to recover your skill with almost no time at all compared to gaining it and slowly but surely will get better. I'm probably the only one here that did this, but.
http://img33.imageshack.us/i/screenib.jpg I scroll my screen to that position. It cuts off the arrows at the top, and somehow I think it has helped me tremendously. |

Re: AAA/FC Tips?
my tip would to play harder songs and wait till your hands, wrists get tired and give your self a little break then come back on when your arms start feeling better just remember concentration is key and that you should do your best to stop your self from tenseing up when your hittin them keys, also a good computer with no lag helps alot.
Hmm my key setups are (sd L,) but thats just how i used to play so the , is more confortable to me than the K key would be as well as i put , as down instead of right for some reason, but its probly just me gl man just keep playin and ul get AAAs and fcs like nothin |

Re: AAA/FC Tips?
What hurley, middie, and LJRoX said.
Don't be afraid to practice on songs you can't score well on. But also don't play songs that you can't keep your lifebar up. Work your way to dumps, they're the steroids of 4key regardless if you want to hear it or not. As your speed increases, your accuracy will also naturally increase.

Re: AAA/FC Tips?
Thing is about stepmania that people dont seem to get is that you cant really go from FFR and play SM for a couple of days or like a week max and expect anything out of it. You have to play SM long term to see a difference. I've seen a few people including myself play all SM during FFR's downtime and saw a pretty big improvement, you realize how easy FFR really is compared to SM. Seriously if you play SM more you will come to realize that basically everything from difficulties 1-11(some 12's) are basically MA files on SM. SM obviously has a way larger variety of files to play from so you have a much larger range for improvement then just playing straight FFR.
