Still kinda new and wondering. . .
Now I havnt asked yet becuase I thought to myself " well you know you probablly just need more practice ", but Ive gotten " pretty " decent, but I still cant AAA songs . . .
My goods seem to happen in random spots. Ive changed my keys once, I started with askl and now use sdjk. My speed has been set pretty much since I started at 1.75 UNLESS I get the weird urge to play with my arrows going baclwards ( for me anyway, they go up not down ), then I play on 2x speed ( this is only for fun and when I want a challange ). Anyway, Ive also tried using headphones, using speakers, and learning the song ( music, lyrics etc ) by heart and playing with no sound at all. It appears to be worse on blue note only songs. I dont think its becuase I cant see color note pattern either, I can follow the all blue just as well, yet my " goods " pop up alot more often. I cant even AAA Mario 8bit, though it seems this is a problem for alot of people, and once Im trying to overcome, hence my asking. Ive thought it might be a keyboard issue and thought about trying a different one, but I LIKE my keyboard ( its a zmerc ) , and the sdjk keys type and FEEL ok, so I dont know. Is this common? Is it just " dude, get over it, you suck " kinda thing ( i.e, most people are apt to never admit the fault lies with them [ lag, phone, etc ] ), or is it kinda a known issue? Im still practicing, but Im only posting ALL of this becuase well, some of these easy songs ( to me now ), I still cant AAA. The handfull I have done seems to be pure LUCK. Those are the ones I just happened to play the most. Thanks in advance for any tips / suggestions / ideas you may have on this. I'd really like to get better then just FC'ing all these songs. Peace, Shay

Re: Still kinda new and wondering. . .
Spend a few plays trying to AAA the song 'Power' as it strikes the balance in my mind as being the easiest song that is the most on sync.
Free Space is your other best choice for first AAA, but believe me, I had AAA'd 5's and 6's before I AAA'd Super mario 8-bit (That rank 3,800 X-1-0-0-0 was galling, really) I found that I was getting nice SDG's on all the easy songs for quite a while and never AAA'ing them, and it wasn't until I just said "You know what, screw it, I'm going to get a AAA if it kills me" and proceeded to play Excite Bike about 50 times. It isn't even so much a "random lag" issue (Though that does happen) as a "It takes specific practice to get the hang of AAA'ing versus SDG'ing" |

Well, songs with backgrounds sometimes cause people to lag, giving random goods.
Some (But NOT ALL) blue note songs are off sync, example being The Last Firstborn. Perhaps you just need to find the right speed mod for you. Try playing more seriously on 2.0x, maybe that would help? Also, try Dark On. It may or may not help you.

Re: Still kinda new and wondering. . .
It really could be a bunch of things, such as your keyboard, computer, internet connection, and of course you. Personally, I (my family) has 3 computers. Only on one of those can I score less than 50 goods on any song... (even excite bike ) One of them is running on windows vista which, according to many people including myself, makes it very difficult to AAA on FFR.
Also, how fast is your computer? I know mine's kinda fast but I still play on low detail just to make sure the game runs smoothly. One more thing: I've noticed recently that many stepfiles on FFR are not perfectly synced with the song, and I don't just mean blue note syndrome songs. In order to get a lot of AAAs, you're going to have to sacrafice being accurate to the music in order to be accurate to the arrows. And while I do believe that this takes away from the fun of the game and its original purpose, this is how it is. Good Luck!

Don't worry, I can't AAA songs neither. We just suck, we have to get over it.

Thank you for your polite replys.
So the three of you are saying " practice more, it IS perks in the system, but can be overcome ". My computer is older but still decent enough. P4 3.2 HT, 2 gigs corsair ram, nvidia 7800 GS ( its a custom build ), windows XP pro.

If you're using vista just give up trying to AAA stuff now.

Re: Still kinda new and wondering. . .
If you're having trouble AAAing stuff, stop trying to AAA stuff. Instead, work on your PA on harder songs, which will inevitably give you the skill to AAA easier songs. Play stuff just before the point of comprehension and mashing and get better at those songs, and your PA will come naturally with that.

Re: Still kinda new and wondering. . .
Don't worry dude, it took me 2 years until I got my first AAA, and now i still suck at it. Just keep practicing, start on some of the newer easier songs(Power and Free Space). The more you practice your PA will increase. And if you haven't already, download StepMania, and practice on that as well. With SM, the timing window is a lot more difficult. Just a few tips I can think of.
As far as keyboard and speed, etc. Just test a bunch of stuff out. You never know when you are going to find what brings you out as a better player. |

Re: Still kinda new and wondering. . .
Again thank you for your kind replies.
I started to notice that alittle last night dore, I can get my PA up fairlly nice on VD's and Im even working on some master only that Im not mashing and trying to follow, yet I am trying to unlick a token on Water Like Pudding, and my " good " just pops up on any random step it seems, the one time I did hit the 243 perfects and had it auto fail, the song gave me a BOO AS it was ending ( I had met my auto end song on 243 perfects but it gave me a boo for trying to hit the 244'th step AFTER it was set to end. Kinda ticked me off ). ANyway it just seems that some of the songs are off or that somehow even when a steady tap tap tap in beat ( say just standerd red step 8 times in a row all on the same key ) that I get a good when I feel I havnt. I will keep at it though. Thanks for the inspiration Peace, Shay
