Default Google Nearly Starts a War. Seriously.

Quote:
Errors by Google Maps have in the past week re-ignited a territorial dispute in North Africa and nearly caused a war in Central America.

In the latter instance, last week Nicaraguan forces crossed a disputed border and raised their flag in territory that was long considered part of Costa Rica after the military commander on the scene looked up the area on Google Maps to determine how far he could deploy his troops.

Costa Rica has responded with heavily armed police (the country abolished its army decades ago) and its president has called the move an invasion. Nicaragua so far has refused to withdraw its soldiers.

Someone needs a new career if a couple of wars were that close to starting.

War stratagies based on Google Maps.
God, I love technology.

I think the commander is more at fault for relying on Google Maps. It's reliable it's just difficult to get something so incredibly detailed such as a world map perfect.

I can only imagine how much of a fool that commander looks after relying on google maps to deploy his troops. Your thread title is a little misleading, it doesn't seem like google wasn't at fault in any way.

Wouldn't this make the thread title incorrect?

It would make the story title incorrect, too.

Pretty sure this is the military equivalent of citing wikipedia as a source on a research paper.
