What then?
`Dikpati’s forecast puts Solar Max at 2012. Hathaway believes it will arrive sooner, in 2010 or 2011. Sun scorching angry outbursts which set free as much energy as a billion hydrogen bombs—possibly will, under the right circumstances, black out cities and fry satellites. But new solar scopes can give us advance warning. The Earth’s magnetic shield protects us from the worst effects of solar storms (and even astronauts on the International Space Station can take cover in a heavily shielded module), but technology suffers greatly. Atmospheric and magnetic fluctuations that the storms cause can also disable satellites, burn out transformers, and take down power grids.

Re: What then?
Move to CT.
I don't think we have any options that we can currently access. If this happens, we're screwed. |

Re: What then?
People are always predicting apocalyptic events that have no real bearing to the actual chain of events that inevitably transpires in their typical cyclical fashion. The Mayas might be able to predict celestial events like the Summer/Winter solstices and solar/lunar eclipses (which are cyclical), but this does not ensure the accuracy of a prediction of some event that will supposedly cause global destruction. After all, it's caused by incrementally increasing tension or stress to stability (i.e the impending collapse of a star), or a random outburst (solar flares). We cannot predict such events, but only observe or guess as to when such events will take place.
That said, just because the Mayan calendar ends on December 21, 2012 doesn't mean we're all gonna burn or something. The Mayan calendar is cyclical, and will just loop back to the beginning of it's next cycle. It's been over 2000 years already and the Rapture hasn't happened, and Brahma hasn't fallen asleep again, so I'm not worried. Wow, I actually typed something that sounded smart. ~Bynary Fission

Re: What then?
tl;dr - Not a Dooms Day.
I doubt this will make it into CT.. better off in CC anyway.. Now I took an Astronomy class last year, and it's a subject that I always found interestsing. I do know that our Sun is currently in an active flare state, but all that means is the Sun will expell more solar energy now then it normally does. Just so you know these flares are completely harmless and rarely make it to Earth. When they do they create radio interference. (Disrupt satellite communication, cell phones, radios, etc.). That's it. I think the OP may be misinterpreting the context of the passage on that link. It basically does exactly as I just described. The flares won't destroy cities or kill anyone... On a side note, I question Hardesh Hira's knowledge of the Solar System and our Suns anatomy. I'm not saying he/(she?) was wrong but it didn't really sound like he/(she?) knew what he/(she?) was talking about.. EDIT: wow just saw the youtube vid one sec EDIT: Yes sorry Mans0n, but you're definitely misinterpreting what this is about. There is no "dooms day" to speak of. Our Sun is just farting. Re: What then?
If the world ended as many times as people predicted, it would have exploded at least 200 times already.

Think of it this way, All technology will be useless, no more Google, FFR Myspace, hell no more computers. Anything with a circuit board will be fried.

But you know, this is ANOTHER conspiracy saying that the world will end in 2012. My god guys, LOOK AT THE Y2K THEORY! Did this happen? No. All just a wacky conspiracy and belief. Lol.
