I think Cranston was just humoring the interviewers / responding tongue-in-cheek.
Both Cranston and the writers have, in the past, said that it was important to end the story at the right time, and that Walter was definitely dead.
"I think Vince Gilligan, the creator of the show, didn't have to dilute any of the storylines by going too long. You never want to see a show get the reaction like 'Breaking Bad, is that still on the air?' You want people to say 'I miss that show.'"
