Checklists I think help a lot. It feels so good when you check something off ^_^ Thus, motivation to tackle the next task emerges from checking off the last task.
OH, and - as I reviewed Reincarnate's post - guilt. I felt so bad for not doing an assignment, or studying, so I just did it. Dat guilt.
