you can always ask your arcade to put up a modded stepmania arcade and then they would load up all the DDR songs from there. My arcade has a modded stepmania arcade with all the DDR and ITG songs.

You should download the bones files, which is also located in the characters page.

Bones are important because they make the characters move. Some characters already have their own bones files.

Actually I think the bones files were grouped altogether in a .smzip file when I downloaded it a long time ago. If you have stepmania opening it will let stepmania automatically install the bones...

You probably didn't download the bones file. Bones is the file which gives the mesh (or simply your character) the animation it needs. You need to download and install it from stepmaniathings here...
