HUGE sinkhole swallows homes in Guatemala City
mmhmm
A 100-metre-deep sinkhole killed two teenage siblings when it swallowed about a dozen homes early Friday and forced the evacuation of nearly 1,000 people in a crowded Guatemala City neighborhood. Officials blamed the sinkhole on recent rains and an underground sewage flow from a ruptured main. The two bodies were found near the enormous fissure, floating in a river of sewage. The pit emitted foul odors, loud noises and tremors, shaking the surrounding ground. A rush of water could be heard from its depths, and authorities feared it could widen or others could open up. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servl...ory/Front/home Better photos, though not in english: http://www.dagbladet.no/nyheter/2007/02/23/493090.html |

Re: HUGE sinkhole swallows homes in Guatemala City
We can find comical things in the most horrifying of disasters.......I don't know if I should laugh or cry.........
I heard that during your drop in a sinkhole, it starts to get real cool and there are nice furs on the lining of the walls. It's supposed to be a real relaxing sensation before your death. Scary, ain't it? |
Re: HUGE sinkhole swallows homes in Guatemala City
I suppose that's a good thing then. If you are going to die and you know it, dieing comfortably is much better than dieing in pain. Unless of course you enjoy pain, then that's an entire different story.

Most sinkholes commonly happen in soft rock such as limestone, so I should be safe for now. |
