Okay...What the fuck
 

So as most of you know I'm a sim author... but as of recently I've had a teeny weeny problem... ALL OF THE FILES I SEND TO PEOPLE ARE GOD DAMN BLANK! But when I load them it shows the charts with all the steps!

My personal opinion is that Windows 8 fucking HATES ME :( has this happened to anyone else or am I losing my marbles here?

you know I had a similar problem, I once stepped a chart solely on SM 3.9, however some charts got bugged when I tried to test it on 3.95 that is similar to your situation. 3.9/5 Seemed to load it just fine, though.

My guess is just versions? Unless you used DDream in which I don't know.

I strictly use 3.95! like I'm about to kill my laptop. I sent my Buzzards file to Alex....something and he said it was empty so I sent my WHOLE WIP to him and he said they were all blank! :(

I think it's a problem relating to a few versions of Stepmania, such as v3.95. I'd honestly stick to the usual 3.9 or 5.0. I personally wouldn't even look at 3.95 or 4.0. If you like a specific version of Stepmania, it's always good to download multiple versions for your needs, as each version offers something different (and have their own perks/issues).

edit: in fact, Glove had the same issue not long ago while he was sending a revision to someone for his ODI3 pack. Just flip back through the thread and you'll find it. He downloaded 3.9 and it fixed the problem.

Only reason I use 3.95 myself because faster boot-up + Online play and that's it :p

If you don't really need those two combined, then yeah no real reason to use CVS anymore. Or like I said try stepping something in DDream and see if your problem persists (Unless you don't prefer it)

It's not just saving the simfile in a different directory? Because that's what happens if you don't have your proper privileges set to your stepmania directory. It'll save it to a temporary directory. Try searching for the simfile folder using your windows search.

might have the same problem i guess but it's worth a shot

a few things i did to it:
rates down to 0.1x added
no explosions at the arrow receptors when you go above 100 combo
smaller combo text that doesn't go megasize when you hit 1000 combo, also moved the combo text down
lots of c-mods
added 80% & 92% Distant and 10% Mini
includes my all-time favorite noteskin Wired :D (i did not make it)
added C722 and Wired as default settings in the editor so you don't have to change it the first thing you do every time


if you don't know how to have multiple stepmanias installed without having to copy your songs folder, go to \Stepmania CVS\Data\Stepmania.ini and put:

AdditionalSongFolders=C:\TheFolder\WhereMy\SMSongsAre



yeah 3.95 has a few issues, i had to get 3.9 to play a few odipack3 files when my 3.95 went really haywire for a while. now it works though and i still use 3.95 since i'm more used to playing on it (the timing window feels sliiiightly earlier than on 3.9) and 3.9 was more laggy for some reason (my computer is terrible).

i also like the 3.95 editor better, all 3.9 versions doesn't have 192nds which i could never work without and a few other things are more convenient in the 3.95 editor, and it actually crashes less too if that's even possible (always save often).

also, obviously 3.95 has online play. more people should play online since SMO is really good nowadays

why would you even use 3.95 to step, its horribly unstable and broken, if you want to use something from the 3.9 line to step use 3.9+ like most people, else use ddream

Try looking in C:\Users\(YOUR NAME)\AppData\Local\VirtualStore for your lost files, they may have been stored in there if you didn't have admin privileges.

Windows doesn't let programs without certain permissions to save things to programs files directory. You can move your songs folder to somewhere else and then link to it inside of the stepmania.ini.

Give your stepmania folder permission to read and write. By default, it is set as a read-only folder.
