Rubiks cubes

My friend taught me how to solve a cube with the basic method and its pretty addictive. I have nearly optimized my performance with that method. I can solve a cube in like a minute and 40 seconds. I have been cubing for about a week.

I know theres gotta be mad awesome cubers on this website.

Lets talk about rubiks cubes.

We have a person in FFR that can solve a rubik's cube in 1 minute, blindfolded
We all refer to him as "the rubix guy"

Re: Rubiks cubes

My fastest solve was using the Petrus method (about 32 seconds)...this was in high school and I forgot how to do it. Fridrich method was what I first learned...I'm slow now because I don't practice it...Probably can only solve in about 40-50 seconds on average.

Re: Rubiks cubes

I use a half-assed Friedrick method for timed things. Never managed to break a 25 second average. Just messing around I like the roux method because I like watching M slice moves.

I find solving twisty puzzles relaxing especially ones that just take some time to place the pieces like the face turning octohadron, pyraminx crystal and flower rex.

I used to average sub 15 seconds using cfop but i've not done it in a while and am probably average like 20 now lol

heh

Anyway, I get 45-1:15 depending on luck with a janky ass method nobody else uses.

Timed myself 10 runs about a year ago using layer-by-layer (beginner) method and averaged about 50 seconds. Was always too lazy to sit down and actually learn Fredreich.

Re: Rubiks cubes

I got into it for a little cause I had roughly 4 hours of commute time a day, avg was like 23-24 seconds with cfop
pb single is 16.5 or something

Re: Rubiks cubes

I'm sure people like to listen to all the noise you make with your cube during commute :P

Re: Rubiks cubes

Used to be pretty fast (personal best for a single solve I think was like 15-16s sighted), but it was like over a decade ago -- I probably suck now.

Haven't had the slightest inkling to get back into it. I feel like once you get past certain barriers, getting faster requires exponentially more memorization -- which is time that I'd rather devote to other hobbies.

I was going to mention a certain Mr. Rubix on this site. :P You had a blindfold solve video in like a minute didn't you?

Re: Rubiks cubes

Actually I remember having a lot of fun with the Mirror Cube, if anyone's ever tried one. It's like a cube with no colors -- each piece is a different size. I remember leonid solving one I think.

edit: Yeah, this one -- I guess it's called Mirror Blocks, my bad:

Im down to a minute 20 seconds

Also yes unless i learn a new method i cant see getting much faster unless i get lucky.

Re: Rubiks cubes

i was hovering around the 1 minute mark, +- 15 seconds last night

mostly because i have incomplete OLL/PLL knowledge, and my F2L is complete garbage

hovered around 30 in high school, i have a signed shirt from erno rubik that we got from a competition lol

2-look OLL/PLL is a tasty way to get faster without having to memorize 157 algorithms.
