To answer the first question, one way to convince them is by making your motives so telling that you are bringing it up because you are concerned for them might make the person consider you more seriously. Observations and facts might be used to solidify your point but be careful with how those are presented.
As for Trump, I will simply say that I do not want him to be the next president of the US.
