Official Tournament #13: The Great Rustening(?)
Posted on: July 1, 2020, at 01:08:29am

At first I thought it might be neat to document my progress through this tournament, but my mood quickly soured as I spent 5+ minutes trying to find how to make a random thought. Alas, Mr. sunk cost got the better of me and I finally found it. (why the hell is it under 'settings'?????? or am i just blind?)

As of today (7/1/2020), rust levels are moderate. 270 JS is a struggle and 400 BPM streams feel like 450. I'm also adjusting to using one of my old shitty keyboards until I can get a new one, which is a thing. If I can reach peak I should be able to do fairly well, but that's the hard part. I will provide daily offerings to the god of rust oxidation to treat me well.

Round 1: Inferno of Fomalhaut (2-0-0-0)

Second real try, got super lucky to not drop a bunch of random misses from not hitting my keys hard enough and to not randomly forget how to OH trill 150 for some reason. Could probably AAA even in my current state, but that requires effort and I'll lick one of my old crusty keyboards on video if this isn't enough for round 2.

Round 2: The Glorious (1-0-0-3)

Rust level: low. This score came after an Etterna session with an incredibly sloppy Twilight of the Thundergod 1.3 J4 AA.

Super AAA-able, this is just the type of file that I'm really good at dropping random misses and goods on, leading to nerves on any decent run. The good and boos were purely because of nerves. I will be frightened if I have to improve this score to move on.

Round 3: HeadXSplit (4-0-0-0)

200 bpm JS in this game is unironic hell and would be easier on 1.2, grinding this is incredibly unenjoyable and my life is measurably worse now for having played it the few times that i did

Round 4: Chronomia (AAA)

This took way longer and was way more stressful than it should've been, considering I can't use my scuffed skillset as an excuse, unlike other ffr charts. Got 2g clean 15 minutes after the round started, but didn't feel safe because people are good at hs apparently. Got the AAA after a few attempts in the middle of an actual (:O) ffr session which contained nothing else of value beyond dreams of what could've been (pretty much AAAed all hard parts of Parousia but floundered on easy shit).

Round 5: Vantablack (2-1-1-3)

Pretty much the most awkward and mindblockable patterns imaginable. Could AAA in theory but there are way too many parts to mess up, especially with nerves. Also, I've already mindblocked the trill transitions in the first half after probably less than 10 plays. At least this should be enough for next round.

Round 6: Line-Epsilon (2-0-0-0)

This chart is basically just one hard anchor and a super mindblockable first 1000 notes (for me, at least). Both goods were in the first half because I can never hit the anchor on a real run, and can barely make it past the first half anymore. 2g being tied for third is pretty scary at this point in the tournament. At least next round should be much more up my alley.

Round 7: We Want to Run (8-0-0-2)

This chart pretty much plays to my strengths, as long as I don't have to AAA it. Got this with 4 goods in absolutely nothing before the ending, could low sdg/AAA on a good run. Next round will actually be scary.

Round 8: Sinthasomphone (18-0-3-2)

Losing to a 2323[12][34][12][34] transition in the last 5 seconds is a big meme, but I definitely don't deserve to win if I instantly mindblock an easy transition in the last 5 seconds on my first run. GGs to Asreilly and Gh3luver obviously, and now I am apparently the 3rd place wiener.
