When using numbers in Japanese, "shi" and "shichi" is more of a countdown or just normally written. It is true that "shi" is known to be a misfortune number because "shi ne" means to die. Nevertheless, "yon" or "nana" is more likely to used as telephone number than it is to regular number counting.
